I put a e7 ecu in one of my rvrs. Quite easy to do, when you have the right wiring diagram (was using a gta not Gsr diagram). I'd go for a e8 ecu myself if I was to do it again.

Check you get the same plugs if going for a e8 ecu. The mr and maybe some others has different plugs (same as e9, different to yours)

Evo 6 is easier...and easier to find one at a reasonable price.

Most will say late evo ECU, I am hooked on ECMlink, huuuge community, very helpful. You need to check out the package they offer:

http://www.ecmtuning...&products_id=44

AUD - USD blows goats ATM, but the versatility and being able to learn to tune your own car with the support of a large network of fellow tuners is second to none. Plenty of tutorials and more relying on finding a reputable tuner to tune your car, it's DIY! Post a log and get feedback and advice on what to change. That being said, a good tuner can work with ECMlink easily

I have a few HSG ECUs with machined pin sockets, much better that regular socketing (40c vs $4 for materials) and I solder well. Check out the differences between the J1 to J2 jump on these.

This is what I got from Japan as a socketed ECU J2 to J1 jump ↓↓↓

This is the machined socket strip I use↓↓↓

And this is the work I do↓↓↓

Socketed HSG ECU $185 +post.

Go with what you are comfortable with though, at the end of the day it is your car and you need to find what works for you.

Are you including changing caps for that price?

Ecmlink is good. And it will show you most of the stuff you will need for a late ecu. Its pretty much learn at your own pace too. It will run fine out of the box, and have room to improve the tune it as you learn

So if I go with the ecmlink package it's plug and play or is there more to it? Ecu and management systems are way out of my league haha.

You seem to know your stuff Benzo. What are the benefits and uses of one of the socketed ecu's?

You need a socket to be able to run ecmlink or a burnt chip. Just means you can remove/replace chip.

Are you including changing caps for that price?

The ECUs from the late '90s don't use the crappy Rubycon capacitors that the early ones do, totally different in size and appearance to the type used on the RVR items.

I have never heard of any of the late model caps leaking. I could easily change them to new ones, but I don't see any reason to. I think the ECUs are well priced.

Hey guys just wondering what exhausts you are running that have optimal flow, minimal modification to fit & really nice sound? Or am I best off just going custom? If so what setups did you go with? Thanks.

If anyone has time to list some worthwhile performance, handling and suspension mods be my guest. I do however look over the forums every now and then so no biggie if it's a hassle.

I've decided to go ECMlink when car is 100% good running condition and will hopefully be taking advantages of benzo's services

One thing ya gotta consider is the tranny, 1st stage for me is a big oil cooler, blue wire mod, and the translab valve kit, you'll find a thread in the rvr section which has more parts to look at

Exhaust will be a custom job, mines 3" with a 2 1/2 front pipe, that will probably go to 3 later, 100 cell cat, 400mm resonator and varex, sounds good open or closed

Suspension- 4-9 can be made to fit with minimal modding, best off having a dig around for the exact details though as there are a couple of things to consider, user leon r has got some good info about it in a thread
Get a 16g on there as soon as ya can, just dont forget the trans cooler,
