Ok, negating the so called lag.. lets say rev limit of around 8k and 15psi of boost with the 20g, still with in the safe zone?

Your "lag" is going to be down to rear housing boost on a 16g is mad by around 2500 full boost by 3500 if you get a 20g hybrid on a evo rear should bring the boost theshold closer to those numbers

I thought the difference was in the impeller and front housing?

Its all in the tune i bet i could get a std 93 to live fine with a gtx3076. Ramp in peak torque with low boost an timing and it'll make the numbers.

Isn't the 20g rear the same spec as the 16g?
I thought the difference was in the impeller and front housing?
Nope a std 20g has a much larger rear housing and isnt actually native to the td05 frame 20g is actually in the td06 frame of mhi turbos

20g is a compressor wheel. It can be on a tdo5 frame or Tdo6.
that is correct but they are generally sold new as a td06 the td05 20g is the frankenstein love child. much like the kinugawa 16g td04

I thought the td06 20g had the 11blade high flow impellor wheel and ported rear housing - but was still a stock (16g) frame turbo.
I could be very wrong..:

Well the 20g I'm referring to is the upgraded compressor wheel retaining 16g exhaust wheel, I already have all he supporting mods along with stand alone ecu just haven't forged as yet.

we don't need to argue the semantics of the 20g turbo with the same rear as a 16g the only increase in response come from extra mass on the impeller which isn't that much in the scheme of things. it should flow more air for any given boost level

So u think i should go ahead and put it on and run the same 16psi as normally would with the 16g?
