Ok guys for my mivec im looking to first change cams then move onto turbo later on. Or vice versa if anyone can propose a good setup
Current profile is 242s low lobe and 285/300s high lobe currently on a td05 16g at 20psi which runs out of puff.
Available std are 272/300s a supposedly hks grind.
What sugestions do you guys have keeping in mind i want a responsive setup.

Id go with 264s if i were to do cams again got 268s because everything i read said it wouldnt loose anything down low buy would give extra up top but i definitely felt an increase in lag duno if it was to do with the tune or cams. If i were you leave the cams and go an 18g or 20g
i don't have to worry about losing low end because i would go for a cam profile on the high cams only which currently kick in at 4700rpm so i can go giant lumpy cams without losing any idle quality or performance down low

I think in terms of what you're planning you may have run a low rpm cam profile that can idle well but still be a little closer to the big cam as far as profile. I'm thinking more about the transition from low to high and how it will impact on daily driving/tuning.
Have a chat with Kelford, email or whatever. They can do a custom grind and if you're good at math and familiar with Newton you might be able come to the table with a bit more of an idea what duration/lift you think you might need for your goals. Also, how much you can adjust your EBC to make the transition as smooth as possible when the big cams come into play? An Apexi AVC-R (and I'm sure others) can adjust boost duty and gain every 500 rpm, however I'm not saying that it is the most important factor, but I could imagine it helping to move or feather the ramp up to the spot that you need depending on the new cam characteristics.

this isn't so much about picking bigger cams it's about picking beter suited cams. I'm aiming for 200awkw on pump which from all indications is very possible but just not happening with the current setup

If you want to get really serious then perhaps take a look at going to a Garrett ball-bearing turbo, something like a GT28 "Disco Potato" on a custom tuned length exhaust manifold. The whole thing with Mivec is taking advantage of the high-rpm and the exhaust gases that it will produce, so a tuned length manifold with a twin scroll housing might be the way to go.
My mate is making 220kw atw on his MK2 Escort Improved Production race car with a restricted GT28 on a 2.0L Duratec and it has no lag whatsoever.
Cam wise - not sure what to suggest there, but I am imagining it's like the Honda guys and their VTEC, if you stuff around with it too much then you actually lose performance, my mate had a S2000 and found this out the hard way! Was a PITA for him swapping cams over again and going back to stock. I don't know what he went to originally, but he said the car drove like a POS.

yeah the only helpfull guy on mivec.co.nz said something around the same size as mikey turbo gt3072 or similar was what the big power mivec boys are using. i just don't want to go to big on the turbo/turbine housing as i want it to be rather quick to spool. and i could do with adding about another 1000 to the rev limit
as said help with cams/turbo if going a different turbo/ manifold is going to be beter than going to a lesser duration cam then so be it

you could swith your mivec on and off and do a run and compare you boost/rpm logs to see. You may be seeing boost 1000 rpm lower.
kiggly has graphs of his setup, tho its a bit different, but it gives some indication.
the disco potato sounds like a good match.
How much overlap do your cams have? Im wondering if they have na overlap and you are blowing a heap of boost straight out the exhaust

they likely have a shed load of overlap they are n/a cams with 285 intake duration and 300 exhaust duration
heres the specs
Valve Timing Intake : Open (BTDC) 17' (primary cam) / 47.5' (secondary cam) Close (ABDC) 31' (primary cam) / 72.5' (secondary cam)
Exhaust : Open (BBDC) 41' (primary cam) / 70' (secondary cam) Close (ATDC) 11' (primary cam) / 35' (secondary cam)
Cam Spec Intake : duration : 228' / lift : 7.58mm (primary cam) 285' / 10.41mm (secondary cam)
Exhaust : duration : 232' / 8.24mm (primary cam) 300' / 9.83mm (secondary cam)
Maximum Power 175ps @ 7500rpm
Maximum Torque 17.0kg/m @ 7000rpm

It's 4700 based on your setup or stock?
Mivec is a great thing.
Great idle and low end with top end power also.
