Like the title suggests, I'm after a manual transmission for my 94 ssg rvr. I made the mistake of letting a mate drive my car and he shifted without the clutch in and now I don't have 2nd gear and 3 gear is pretty much gone too. Just want to see if there's a box I can build and then throw in rather than getting mine out rebuilding and putting back in as it's a daily and it can't be off the road for too long. Any help is much appreciated

White Knight (Ian) has one in pieces he might want to sell to get you out of trouble. I have a complete gearbox sitting here, no rebuild needed.

Mine is hsgr box. Different final drive ratios and possibly even different mounting points as well....
Benzo, I believe your spare box was from a N/A which i think are also 3.9 as opposed the ssg which is 3.54 or .45.
Correct me if I am wrong though.
I wouldn't give the box away in the shed either sorry, it needs almost a total rebuild as is.
ThereThere are a couple of wreckers in the gold coast region that tend to have ssg boxes from memory.
Best of luck Eddy, whish I could help mate.

I'd say a busted shift fork. Pull it out, pull it down and see. If so lemme know. I have a heap of steel fork

Pretty sure all RVR manual transmissions run a 3.909 rear diff ratio, so I wouldn't imagine Mitsubishi changing the ratio in the front transaxle, because then they'd have to change the transfer case as well which doesn't make financial sense..............but it's Mitsubishi so it wouldn't surprise me at all

Is it in full working order?

Yes indeed ;)

I've been quoted around the $600 mark by my local gearbox and diff place to rebuild the box, does that sound reasonable?

Id personally be both stoked and suss on that price, seems extremely cheap to me...
Check gearbox code on top of gearbox as well.
If it ends with MMZL its for a 3.909 rear diff, however if it ends in UMGL its for a 3.545 rear. All is not lost if you buy Bennys' gearbox and it has different final drives.
Switch out front diff crownwheel and output pinion and you would be apples anyway.
Cheers bud.

These guys want $136 for the N/A manual gearbox, they also have staff that can pull it out, I don't know how much labour they'd charge though.

there is also another wrecker here in Melb with a RVR that's almost identical but I don't know if they still have the box and they're a fraction cheaper still

Things are a whole lot different in QLD, you'd be lucky to get a set of mirrors for that amount of money.

Have you tried this as yet Edy? Worth a go mate, Cranked is a fairly switched on guy so it qould be worth a look at the very least mate.

It has to be synchros, 2nd and third are gone which are on different linkages (?), after a longer discussion with my geabox and diff guy he says to pull out the box, rebuild and get parts it'll be more like $1500+ depending on what needs fixing. I'd do it myself but I need it done reasonably quickly. The original quote of $600 was just labour to rebuild the box. Thanks for the help guys!! Your knowledge and help is much appreciated as always :)

No worries Edy. The quoted rebuild amount makes a bit more sense, dollar wise, but still reasonable really.
I hope you find a favourable solution shortly mate.

My gearbox code is W5M33-2WMXL. It runs with a 3.909 rear diff..........so there is another number to throw into the mix.

I checked out the code on the box in the HSG-R and it ends with WXNL. I have a metal backed barcoded sticker where the code is normally stamped, and there's no stamping underneath the sticker...................

Edy, what is the ratio of your rear diff?
