Hi all,
When I was a younger chap one of the fist cars I've had an interest in was Mitsubishi Cordia turbo AB GSR
First time I’ve heard of Cordia is when one of the guys back in ’97, took me for a drive.
I remember a comment from back then “this thing will go to 80 in a second gear ” wow
Couple of years later one of my mates from basketball showed me his.
This is back in ‘99.
It just came from the paint, new white paint job, forged engine, decompression plate, AVO intercooler setup etc
Back than a cooler setup was around 2k!! So it was very rare to see many older turbo cars with them.
And most turbo guys didn'tuse decompression plates back then.
It was running 20 psi! Not bad for 1.8 L engine
This car was doing 13 sec passes while the fords and holden's V8's at that time were in 15s
He took me for spin and I couldn’t believe what this car did, it was a beast.
I said it back then, yes I’ll buy one.
So I did, in 2000.
It took me 2 years to get it on the road with a help of the mate I’ve just mentioned.
He knew them in and out and he thought me how to work on cars.
We both worked on them , driven them, had great fun etc
We were very good mates, like brothers.
Few years later he decided to sell his.
I wanted to buy it but had no money..
He sold it to a guy we all knew.
This guy went all out and spend over 25 k on it.
He painted a car yellow.
Got an lancer evolution engine, ball bearing turbo etc
It was a very quick car.
Lot’s of work done to it but somehow it lost his original appeal to me.
Last time I saw it , was in 2005.
After that in 2006 , I sold mine and became a dad and yes I bought an AU ford
Cordia story ended.
For a long time I’ve tried to located mine to see if someone has it but had no luck.
Same thing with my mates one.
Like most of them , they must have finished at the scrap yards…
I cannot remember last time I saw a cordia on the road!!
So I moved on..
Had camaros etc
Had many other cars in between, torana, GT junior alfa coupe, VH v8, etc
Became a dad again second time around , life goes on…
And then one day… one one fine day, just like in a fairy tale… while checking the internet I came across the car that started it all for me, not just with cordia’s .but the love of cars in general!
My mates white cordia or yellow as it is today.
This is so rare , it just doesn't happen.
Lonely she set in the back of some body shop, with no engine or box and most of the car left in the back seat or around it in dirt.
Each part to be sold piece by piece…. Once a car that people talked about was now on its death bed..
Devine intervention? I Ask myself.
I think so..
it’s a sign and I had to come across it!
Yes yes yes I bought it people ….
After so many years she is finally back …
This is not just any car or any cordia, this is THE cordia ,THE one
The one that dragged a brand new blue AU xr8 in 2000, and killed it, 300 kw WRX rexnxf, GTech wrx,the one that did 240 km on easter frwy….
The one that I got done in on my P plates doing 25 km over and copper let me off!!!
The one that raced a silver skyline R33 , when the other guy was jerking it at around 70 km provoking to do a rolling start,
Took a lead of 50 m on him and when we stopped at the set of lights, his girlfriend rolled down the window and said "nice car" , the guy was just looking straight, he was so embarrassed.
Like blues brother’s would say “ we are on a mission from god”
I am pulling it back from the edge of the abyss…
I will put it back as it was back in 99, white and powerful, she will float like a butterfly sting like a bee
I haven’t seen my mater over 6 years, haven’t kept in touch, life took over, sad but true.
One day when it is all done (without anybody letting him know) I will go to his shop with his and my “camp fire” car to reminisce those days…
It is not the model of the car you have or the money that goes into it, it is about what that cars means to you and the feeling you get every time you see it in your garage.
Cheers
