I've gone back to stock GTi profile cams in a ported GSR head.
The 290s were 11.1mm lift and had absolutely zero power below 4,500 rpm, to the point where if I came to an intersection and was turning to then go up a hill, I'd need to shift down to first gear to have any chance of the car turning the corner and going up the hill. And occasionally it would stall in that situation.
When the power came on and the turbo spooled up, sure it made incredible power for 3,000rpm, but then it was time to shift again and you'd always have a bit of lag in the next gear so repeated the process. It was incredibly frustrating to drive.
Below is a video of my first drive with that setup, where I'm literally foot to the floor the whole way. You can see how laggy the motor was...
