Well got a very small update, managed to get some christmas car parts and was gifted a new HKS SSQV 3 that is not a fake.

asides from that I just got back from my christmas break so progress should get rolling again shortly.

I also managed to pick up a new daily driver, I p[icked up a 2016 Ford Mustang 2.3L EcoBoost so I am very excited about that as I will save hundreds of dollars a month on fuel costs alone. Although it wasnt the best time to buy a mustang as its mid winter right now haha.

Well here is that update I promised sorry its a few days late ran into a few things and needed to wait on some small parts as per any build.

Let me start by saying this build has took the most out of me in a long time, mainly because trying to source parts for a Evo 1 in Canada is near impossible. I struggled financially, bled more on this car then any one before it, and contemplated selling it more then id like to admit. However I am finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully 24 hours from the time this post was made it should breathe its first breathe.

so I received my head back from the machine shop march 31st, the head had been lightly ported, it got Supertech Valve guides, Ferra 6000 series steel valves, Brian Crower springs and retainers, Brian Crower 272 cams, and GSC Zero tick lifters. The following day I got right to work and had the block transported to my friends garage where we could work on it more easily. here are some photos of the process.

The motor is actually in the car as we speak with very little left to be donw so here is hoping it all works out.

Good work man!

Why not just buy all the parts online, instead of trying to source them locally?

Good work man!

Why not just buy all the parts online, instead of trying to source them locally?

not sure which parts you mean but mostly because there are a ton of dsm guys here so motor parts are easy to find. However if you know of places that specialize in evo 1-3 parts hook me up with some links.

and big good and bad update,

ITS ALIVE!

and its trans is busted so I cant drive it anyway. I can lift the car off the ground put in in 1,2 or 3rd gear and nothing happens in the front, rear tires spin but fronts stay stationary but you can spin by hand. Also loud noises from trans so regardless to say im not running the car again until that is fixed which scares me because evos are not common here and finding a trans is going to be a nightmare, Im thinking of just swapping trans, tcase and diffs from a 2g dsm but not sure if that will even work.

help guys im stuck and dont want to sell it now that she runs great...

Try Tim Zimmer at DMZ trans, he's in US.

gearbox issue will be centre diff. If the rest of it is ok. you could replace it with e1 or 2

how hard are the E1-E2 center diffs to come across? Where I live they will be like finding a needle in a hay stack..

Hey guys , progress update!

Managed to get the trans out and take a look at the damage, turns out my center diff was the culprit, also turns out it is the exact same as a 2G dsm center diff so I got super lucky with that part. however my Intermediate shaft was damaged and is missing teeth. From my understanding a 92+ dsm 7 bolt has the same intermediate shaft and has 3 indents on the teeth just like mine do. So if these are in fact the same ( hoping someone here can clarify this for me ) then I am in the clear and just need to rip one out of a spare trans a buddy of mine has and have the rest of my gear set pressed onto it.

Thanks for any help guys!

Nah thats my buddies 86, he is basically making it a formula Atlantic race build. Thing has already got a wicked set of custom coilovers, huge Webber itb carbs, built head and bottom end, custom header. It's a pretty rad little car.

Time for the big update,

its been a long and rough road, almost one year to the date of when I first picked up my evo and now shes nearly ready to it the street.. Today we finally fixed the last of my transmission issues and I got to take it on a short little spin around the block. I am nothing but happy with the car and how it performs.

Sadly upon double checking for leaks a new problem arose, I now have a leaking power steering rack. I would really like to just purchase all the seals and repair my current rack but cannot seem to find any. If anyone knows where I can source the parts to do the repair that would be awesome! Being that my evo is one of very few in my province the likely hood of finding a used one locally is next to zero, and shipping a used one from over seas can be a risky task.

It's a shame you're not in Aus because there are plenty here, a few months back someone was selling a rack for $30 on ebay and had to relist it many times.

There is this mob that does international shipping, so maybe check how much postage is to Canada http://www.ebay.com....8M4AAOSwepJXXha-

I ended importing an Evo 4 RS 2.1/2.2 ratio rack from Japan as I liked the ratio Evo 6.5 and up had, so it might be a good time to upgrade.

Is Evo 4 a direct swap? If so I may be able to find a evo 4 rack locally as we are crawling with Evo 4s and 5s.

George (DOUGMO) ran an EVO4 rack in his EVO2.  I think you will need to modify the subframe mounting points to suit and potentially look at a bump-steer adjustment kit.

Sadly that sounds like way to much extra work , but amazingly I actually found a evo 1 rack local . A friend of a friend has a wreaked Evo 1 in his back yard that he has had for years.

It's good to hear you found a rack locally.

If you do end up still needing to rebuild kit, someone mentions that Mitsubishi Nimbus and FTO racks could be the same, which might mean that the Eagle Summit PS rack rebuild kit might work for you.

But if you decide to upgrade to a newer model you'll need longer bolts and 12mm steering rack limiters on both sides (4x mustang ones which are 6mm thick each) to bring it back to 124mm stroke length from 136mm.

Hey guys time for another update,

Received my last package of parts needed to fix the evo and get it on the road ( hopefully ) on friday we picked up a steering rack rebuild kit from viamoto as well as new steering rack boots, a new set of heater matrix copper hoses ( sold my other set ) and a set of silicone rad hoses I just dropped the car off at my mechanics place to do the rack rebuild because I do not feel comfortable ripping apart my rack. should have the car in a few days and then the dash comes out once again so I can put the heater matrix back in the car After that is all done I get to try and get the car inspected so it can be insured and registered!

I am beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel!
