Cracked the shits with it this morning, cant keep affording to spend 1/2 a day a week on it when i get time so its getting towed first thing in the morning to my "cbf mechanic" who will get it 100% and foot me a probable hefty import tax bill. Dont care, just need it on the road. First car in 27 years thats defeated me, after i put up such a good battle too but just cant commit the time to fixing it anymore with 2 twin toddlers taking up my spare time =(

Hopefully ill have a weekend joy ride touch wood

More set backs. Water bypass outlet has come off and pissed out coolant everywhere. Couldnt even get to the flat spot issue so not even sure if im up for an air flow or a TPS or what but no car for easter and more money to be spent. They can potentially fix the bypass without taking turbo and manifold out, but i wouldnt trust the other 2 outlets to hold up now last thing you want failing driving up the highway. This car will be the literal financial death of me

Poor bastard. I feel for you mate.
My car is at mechanics now too.. it was jumping left on acceleration and right when off the gas. No worries, I've had the tie rod ends off so I took it in for a wheel alignment ( gave the guy specs required from this site). He finished the job and took it for a spin. Came back and told me the front is fucked, well no shit. So I drove it to guy I trust. See how we go... doubtful to have the car over easter weekend now. Sucks.

So thought id take it out anyway gasket has been curing for a good 12 hours or so and on startup got a belt squeal, no big deal just adjust the alternator belt as it was a tad loose. After about 30min of f**king around as the tensioners for them are the worst possible design its fine. Start her up and after 5 seconds hear the top bolt pop out and its taken the thread for the top alternator mount with it. so either new alternator or hopefully enough room to slide a longer bolt and nut on the other side. Without taking it or the motor out.
Ive also noticed i have another issue of some kind, whether manual conversion related or not but idles fine, soon as throttles pressed it dips then kicks in, sometimes stalling if im not hard enough on the gas. fuel related maybe? i dunno think ill call it a night and try again tomorrow.
At this point i just expect shit to go wrong with it now, and dont get mad when it does, its just expected.

How old is the fuel? Sounds like it is either too lean or may even be too rich on idle to throttle open.

Update, workshop in their own words kindly said they cbf fixing the bypass, so had to get it towed to work and work on it before/after work as i dont have much spare time otherwise, and boss says they cant spare me a day or two off with all these short weeks. Got the bypas off yesterday afternoon, took it down to get tapped and nothing happened the whole day, maybe pick it up tuesday. F**king hard to find good help these days i swear.,..

maybe next weekend. maybe

Pretty much at the limit with it. needs more money, more time invested and im actively looking for other solutions. Havent set anything in stone and will sleep on it but as of right now just f**ken over it, want it gone regardless of the little money id get for it. Probably lucky to get 2 and thats a stretch from the 5k i need for the one i want. Might be out of the RVR game at this rate...

So finally some good news it seems, diagnostics came around today, and eventually found the root of the problem, busted capacitor on the ECU, causing havoc with fuel signal (initial problem) and eventually timing (non starting problem)

Ordered another manual ECU off of benzo so hopefully monday itll al be fixed for now....will still be getting another RVR HSG motor to get a proper head back on it instead of the very messy sonata one but at least ill have a quick fix fingers crossed

Cas or cps, it needs a cranking signal to activate fuel pump and for ignition timing.
I would put money on the cps. Is it under the intake cam gear, or on the gearbox end of the head in your car?

Might look like this one...

Oops, sonata head. So sensor must be on back of head. Try another one. At least you are changing out both the sensors at same time...

My Gsr sensors are compatible with sonata sensors (ecu signalwise) but I think vr4 are different.
So you possibly can source a sonata sensor, a evo 1-3 or a Rvr sensor. A vr4 may have a incompatible sensor. Something about rising vs falling trigger and firing the wrong coils (and injectors) at wrong time....

Ive put my original RVR cam sensor on the sonata head, no problems putting it on there as the sonatas ran a different plug and was easier than chopping loom. Same mounting/style etc

Ill check it in the morning at work, check condition, follow wiring back for any pinch points etc and at least see if theres anything obvious wrong along the line.

Cheers for the tip
