Moving along nicely mate. I wish my ecu would idle at those AFR'S...
E6 ECU with 560cc injectors and idles around 13. Time to start getting evoscan working.
It's just good to see you having wins now.

Same here. I always figured if enough cash was thrown at it it'll eventually come right. There's only so many parts to replace before it's a new car right? Lost count but around 16k in now I reckon. Paint and ecu will take it well into its 20s. Dat resale....

I hear ya bud. I'm not in that deep but had a very good condition car to begin with, had issues come and go but the saving grace is that I can do a fare bit myself. Not like Bazeng though....

After months of looking looks like ive tracked down a nimbus motor. Means built 2.4L. Probably take a few years and a few grand but the current motor is rebuilt and happy so im not on a time frame. take my time and do it properly. Is pretty much the end game for it all. 2.4L, 80mm turbo and so decent boost will see it faster than id ever really use it. Time will tell. For now the 20g is on its way, manifolds ready when it gets here, just need the gate and exhaust when ready to install. Bought poly crossmember bushes for it too will be next weekend when i can get around to putting them in i think. Due for front CVs next week. Preparing the nimbus rear bar conversion for paint over xmas also. All coming together

Changed front pads and rotors, changed shifter bracket bushings in a vein attempt to fix the popping out of first and decided to hook the short shifter up at the same time. Got some poly crossmember mounts and in true fashion front went in no problems, rear crush tube turned out to be too big to fit into the poly center. Not sure what im gonna do there as it needs to be fixed before monday for work. Not sure what im gonna do on a sunday to get a fairly specific crush tube. Only person in brisbane i would know to have one is avoiding me for whatever reason. Fixed an oil leak out of one of the bungs in the back of the head. Was gonna do sump while i was at it but realised its gonna be an all day/hoist job. Transfer down it is. Just gonna give it to my brothers shop to do it and do my CVs while theyre there. His dad knows the owner of a CV joint that supplies repco/bursons etc and can get them almost cost price. Then it just needs a wheel alignment, throw in the new turbo and manifold when they arrive then progress will halt some what while i sink money into Maverick and get it back on the road (after all this is only Maverick Jr after all...)

Problem is fixed. Luckily bunnings had some 19x1.5 galvanised tube steel that was good enough to do the job. Would of preferred 3mm but will be fine im sure. Makes a lot of difference just having lower mounts in poly, a lot more vibration on idle and low rpm. Manageable though and definitely worth it to get rid of the back and forth engine sway i had pretty chronic even with good rubber bushes. Tight asf now. Short shifter done at the same time so really feels like a new car shifting. Doesnt pop out of first anymore except when i really try to do it, so i think it was a problem of rubber bushes and shifter bracket bushes. Going to order a new bracket and bushes from amayama and see what happens there, maybe my bracket is slighlty bent etc. Still need to do the box sometime soon but its much much better than it was beforehand. Pleased with the results. 125 bucks for the mounts delivered, 3 bucks for some tube steel, and 47 bucks for a blow torch and we're done.

Just got it back from the shop tonight while ive been away i put it in to get the front CVs done and man were they scary. LF inner was beyond anything ive seen and the RF outer was about average for a clicking CV, but that LF inner had more movement in it im surprised i didnt have chronic vibrations. All fixed up with new CVs and a few niggly issues i didnt have time to get to in the daily routine. Keen on getting this new turbo in and maybe even more so this PWR cooler, the factory cooler feels like it cant keep up with the current turbo on 14 let alone a 20g on 18...

Turbo came in the post today along with some other niggly goodies like lights and internal vents etc. priced out at 12-1300 to get the turbo in. This includes a turbosmart 38mm ultragate, kinugawa install kit, kinugawa rear housing to suit external gate and v band, and a custom vband dump to be made. Pending funds id prefer to get the exhaust to be done while im at it but bills are piling in atm so probably not. Another 1100 ive been quoted for a full 3" custom with a hi-flow. See how we go. For now i will put the turbo in the to do pile, which is getting big...with the other 80mm, the haltech etc etc. I need more putting parts i have in instead of buying other parts but i just keep getting such damn good bargains i cant pass up....

Finally got around to get some time in on the old gal.

Dash vents all done. Managed to get centres and LHS done complete and working, the RHS top 2 louvers arent working as the very small and very brittle connecting rod i couldnt get a good one from the broken sets unfortunately so will have to revisit it at some point, but its not a shitstorm of awkward facing louvers anymore, which pleases my OCD.

Got the tail lights in but need to go buy another soldering iron and some heat shrink to properly wire the indicators in. Want to do it properly.
Did some general maintenance stuff as well, greased all door locks, sliding door, hinges etc etc. Didnt get enough time to do the turbo but thats ok ill get an install kit in the coming weeks and do it properly it is dropping 1-2 drops every other day from the crummy hoses/clamps currently on it behind the manifold.

Thinking about sending the turbo off and getting it looked at to be safe as im not 100% sure with these magic wheels, seems it might need a new centre bush or w/e creates side to side play maybe its just cause it has no oil pressure in it to float the bush dunno see how we go there. For now i think ill just chuck it on the stock mani, use my 14psi gate and get some fun out of it instead of waiting around for everything else with $$.

Ive also been convinced to do the synchros in the box myself. 3-350USD for a synchro/seal set and my labor. My only fear is i crack it open and find i need a new gearset which is $$. Again, see how we go but thatll be over christmas break i think when its not required to daily to work.

Due for a service which ill do next weekend but apart from that its still running strong. I suspect i have a boost leak somewhere though, the more i think about it the more i convince myself not even a china turbo should be so slow spooling up and getting to 14psi. Takes till 6k(ish) rpm to just touch 14psi on the gauge before i have to shit. I trust the gauge being a brand new AEM unit. Probably get that looked at when i get the intercooler in soon as well as summer heat is a bitch for heat soak on a stock cooler. Just feels very slow to build pressure i mean its a 16g, should full spool to 14 easy enough, starts boost at 3k and takes till 6 to touch 14, cant just be me..

Also pulled the nimbus bar out of the corner of the garage to have a nosey at it and found it does indeed have a dent in the centre of it, i knew it was rough to suit sanding/paint but its a sizeable dent that needs proper resto which im not willing to do, ill just find another in better shape, but with now having the loom, lights and everything needed to do the conversion ill throw it on and run around with it till it pisses me off and ill graft the RVR ends onto it like its meant to be done.

I'll keep looking for more vents for you. They are not really designed to last are they?

More so a very delicate design. I only need one vent of any position as long as the thin strip that connects them all is intact. Not bothering me too much now 1000x better than what they were

Turbos aren't too bad to rebuild. Get the kango kit and go for it!
Careful with the middle nut on the compressor side. Check if its LHD or rhd, and torque it to specs. Its only a m6, so easy to snap

I think it just needs to be a td05 kit. As it has a td05 centre, just with a 20g compressor end.
The kit is bearings and seals for the centre section.
Don't quote me as I'm not certain, and not a turbo guru.

I'd say this eBay item... Unless someone knows better. Mine was about half that price (5yrs ago), but had way less parts.

You will need a gear puller and a press to do your bearings in the gearbox. They aren't hard, but pretty involved. Not a job that I'd say to have a go at...

Will need a big bench to lay it all out on, and the (a) shop manual to work from

Made some time after work today. Thanks to Baz i now have correctly working indicators! Boy was it a mess behind there due to compliance. All fixed now. about 30 wires stripped, joined, soldered and heatshrunked neatly to get it back to 'stock'. Also got a free a/c re-gas at work while the a/c man was doing a few other cars. Also while i had all the rear interior trim out i routed the stereo wiring better as previous owner did the best they could without taking it all out. Another job ticked off the list.

Got some more tlc time. My oil return line washers came this week so did a service and made a gasket for the line and used the washers. Should stop the seep hopefully. Also tool the towbar and licence plate bracket off. Weighed up with the spare wheel carrier. Bang on 100lb,or 45kg when I do the bar swap and get rid of the rvr reo to use the nimbus reo that's privably another 15kg easy. Starting prep stages on the bar now I want it on and it's only really costing my Labor at this stage. Also felt like I was loosing clamp pressure once the clutch got hot.thought about it for 2 weeks and concluded it's gotta be a clutch adjustment problem. Adjusted the pedal back figuring when it's hot the fluid expands slightly and takes some clamp pressure away. Problems gone, have full power when on a long trip now. Makes me keen when I get this new clutch in with a crap tonne more clamp pressure. Might have a go tomorrow at a few other small jobs if I get the time.
