Hi Everyone,

I have a dilemma, I imagine many of you have been here and I'd like your input..

After any years of faithful service I now find myself having to decide to sell, or keep my trusty auto RVR hsgr..

Originally bought with 50k, now has 236k and still purring along with that mild lifter tick on startup we all know so well..

Only basic mods done as follows..
Evo 4 brakes on 16" alloys, thick suspension rubbers for slight lift on new shockers all round, a new timing belt kit at 200k, a replacement bov, and 3 to 2.5" exhaust.

So, time to decide to sell, whereby I am interested in your valuations..
or direct some further (fun)ds toward improving my driving pleasure..

My thoughts for subtle useful mods are..

Chip - I believe the bloke to talk to is vr401
Boost valve - I would like to try 14psi (stock is 10 correct?) - any recommendations of who could do this?

Your thoughts

Cheers Nick

Depends on condition really. I recently saw between 4 and 6k for half decent ones. However an auto HSGR doesnt come up for sale very often.

Ya should do an intro and ride thread although this is kind of close, lol
Anyway, at least start a ride thread up, maybe a pic or 2, be easier to help ya in the future too

Just recently picked one of these up in the last month or 2. Paid $6.5k delivered with rwc and rego in Qld. 155k km on the oddo 5spd manual HSGR. Invidia exhaust recirc bov running 14psi. Starting to rust in the roof which will be the next job on the list unfortunately (Anyone know if a full skin is available anywhere?)

Thanks for the feedback guys,

BYBY, i had a loss of power on return from an Adelaide road trip, thought it was the transmission so had a workshop do a full service, after the service it developed a drip that they fixed with a better gasket..charged me for another service the buggers.. However they did diagnose the power problem- ended up being a leaky BOV which i replaced and all has been perfect since..

Burn, the roof had some rust bubbles and a local panel beater sorted I the medium term, think there is some trying to pop through again though, lasted 3-4 years from memory..

Will try for an intro, see if I can copy/paste, cheers Nick

Get an ebc (electronic boost controller) then get the td05- it'll bolt straight up but ya either need to enlarge the manifold hole or run a manual hsg or evo 1-3 manifold, then get bigger injectors (evo 1-4 or manual hsg have 510 or evo 5-9 have 560) and get a chip written, ya may need a fuel pump too,
One thing to look at is a external oil cooler for the tranny too, they apparently get too hot an self destruct

Thanks for the feedback gents...I like my RVR so will keep it till it detonates..

No response on the introduction page so I'm back here for some good advice on how to proceed...so

My auto Hsg has has tdo4 and 450 injectors and boost from factory at 10psi yes?

I really would like more low end torque and throttle response and less turbo lag as my RVR is the family daily so I don't use top end power..so would getting a tdo5 and evo3 manifold and bigger injectors suit that purpose?

Would an ECU re-flash achieve this alone, or later model Evo ECU
Or should I go the ebc +boost increase to 14psi,
or both?

I am in Geelong Vic, but happy to send ecu or visit Melb for tuning and happy to pay for the privalige of someone's experience

cheers Nick

Hi Nick, I would have thought the low response required would be more efficient with the smaller tdo4 turbo. Maybe you just need more boost...

Do you have a high flowing exhaust? Based on your first post you do not. This will possibly give you the extra power you are looking for. If it is a daily, you could go 2.5" all the way. Or 3" if you don't mind the rumble.

Do a boost leak test, maybe that's where all the power is going.

Hi bazeng and jack be nimble, thanks for your input..

bazeng,
I do have a 3 into 2.5 exhaust, so that box is ticked, I think I will start with an ebc, but I am a little concerned about spiking retarding the timing and doing harm or underperforming..so would really like to have someone scan/write a chip for me...

Jackb,
I sure had boost leak from the factory Bov, but that was sorted when the new one went on, the car pulls well when asked to, I'd just like more...ever heard that before lol..

Cheers Nick
