Greeting everyone,

Been lurking here for a while, but figured I'd finally say hello.

I've been in possession of an Evo 1 GSR for about 3 years now, and previous to that a close friend owned it before me.

Car is pretty rough around the edges, but I'm hoping to clean it up overtime. As of now, most of the stuff that goes into it is maintenance or repair, aha. The beautification will have to wait until all that other shit has been dealt with

Since I've owned the car, I've done a handful of things using the "upgrade for maintenance" philosophy... here is that list thus far:

K & N pod W/ Maf adapter

BC Racing Coilovers

Rebuilt Master Cylinder

Walbro 190lph FP

Shifter base bushing kit

Replaced sloppy ass "short throw" with the oem/redid bushing (car feels brand new now).

2.5" catless exhaust into a magnaflow 14830. (Quieter than the OEM 2.25" with holes all throughout)

Things to do (have on hand):

Install Blitz EBC Type S

Install (and hope it even works) my old LC-1 wideband (had a bung put it on the new exhaust)

Cheers,

-Keegz

Tidy looking ride.  I like the black venting on the white bonnet.

Nice Evo 1 (from another Evo 1 owner :D)

Seems like there are heaps of early evos in Canada! Can you tell us more about how this market has developed? Im guessing the Canadians have been hovering up all the cars in Japan?

Hahaha, thanks for the compliments, the car was like that when I got it so I can't take too much credit =P. Also, the car tends to look much better from afar, upclose it's definitely rough around the edges. My hope in the near future is to sand down the surface rust and do a quick spray just to keep it at bay. I'm working on a Masters atm, and haven't really had too much time or funds to really dump cash into cars. I've basically been in school all of my GD life, aha.

As for the market, this is just what I've seen, so don't hold my word as the gospel... iirc canadian import laws are restricted to only 20 years (i believe the states is 25) which allows for quite a lot of jdms to be brought over sooner. A couple years ago, there were a lot of early's on the market, but now it's starting to shift towards the 4-6's (at least that's what the online/classified market is like in my province). Furthermore, for my province (alberta), we have zero tests or regulations for emissions, which makes it that much easier to drive imported vehicles. The only thing the province requires is daytime running lights and a clutch neutral safety switch (along with nothing being too worn out, it's called an out of province inspection). These, of course, are only really required to get it registered/insured, the items can be removed after that because there is no follow up unless the car is sold (but should still pass because a regular inspection is less intense).

In addition to the above, jdm cars in general tend me to be more available in western Canada, since japanland is "closer" (yet another reason why BC and Alberta have so many) and it costs relatively little, even with our dollar being pretty trash atm.

Hopefully that all made sense, I tend to ramble with forum posts.

Cheers,

Thanks for the explanation! Seems like all the early evos on instagram appear to be based in Canada!

Np, well it's an amazing car that destroys both dry and snow, so I can understand why everyone here would like em :P

Nice practical upgrades. Btw, it's 15 years or older that can come into Canada (currently 2002 or older).

Ah ok, like I said I wasn't 100% sure on the specifics  :) that just further explains the amount/accessibility then.

Been having some intermittent start problems lately (suspecting the ecu currently) so I might be moving towards an evo 7/8 ecu swap. I'll start a build thread later to keep things a bit tidier/out of intro.
