Hi guys

Looking through some old jap Evo mags it seems that once upon a time a decent brake upgrade was swapping over to R32 skyline calipers. Just wondering how difficult this is and how worthy an upgrade?

I know Brembos are probably the new hotness, but difficult if you already have too many sets of 4 stud wheels accumulated! :D

You can do Brembo and stay 4-stud. Comes down to the rims and whether they clear.

this upgrade is the easiest, just get them to drill the rotors to your pattern

An easier option, almost Direct bolt up is Chevy cobalt SS brembos, I did them on my ralliart Colt, which people generally upgrade to Evo 3 calipers and Rotors.

Nissan Dualis 296mm, redrilled to 4x114.3 and centre bore enlarged 1mm.

No adapter brackets required, just one bolt hole needs to be elongated on the knuckle.

Thanks guys! appreciate the feedback.

Is there any chance the CTS brakes are the same as HSV ones?

No, the spacing on HSV calipers is different. CTS-V calipers have the requisite 140mm centre to centre spacing, apparently they bolt up with zero modifications. I'm having a look on ebay and at least for the calipers in comparison to the cobalt the CTS brakes are cheaper BUT you will need massive wheels to clear . I think your goal is to have it fit under your accumulated wheels :D

I'm liking this cobalt upgrade. 296mm rotors are a fairly sane upgrade given how small the wheels are. As per the original DSMtalk thread outlander rotors also fit (And I'd assume they would have the same centre bore as the evo, just have them redrilled 4x114.3).

Pedal feel is great, it’s only 7% difference in volume. The stopping power is significantly improved.

Here’s a diagram I made for wheel fitment.

Hmm.

Maybe it would be worth considering the RX7 4-piston calipers. I'm fairly sure from my brief googling that the FC turbo has 4 piston calipers designed to go with 276mm rotors. They're 165mm centre to centre, so you'd need some kind of dog bone adapter.

Some basic info but this guy seems to have had a similar idea to you

Not entirely sure on which rotors will suit,  but if it was me doing I'd likely try to use stock rotors and have the adapters made to suit these. Although possibly the stock rotors are too thick for the Rx7 calipers.
