Aside from the 5 stud conversion thread, I find anything on here as far as listing the brake upgrade options we have available.

I'm looking at a simple, bolt-on upgrade for my GSR. What options are there? Are early evo calipers a straight bolt on? Any other mitsu vehicles compatible?

Just looking for ideas/info. Easier the better.

Evo 3 brakes will Bolt straight up and allow bigger rotors. Alternatively Aus spec vr4 is the same, apart from the hose connection.
GSR Lancer- JE-73-VO, 11.701@125mph, 1.79 60" and getting faster. No:3 conrod now orbiting the moon.

Gto calipers are nearly bolt on(with an adaptor bracket)
Willwood do a kit also.
And Cadillac CTSV (possibly adaptors needed too) comes to mind

Easiest option would be the Evo/VR4 calipers and larger disks. Then get some braided hoses and good pads.

Everyone has their own preferred brand of pads, but really depends on what driving you intend to.

Should stop pretty well with that combination, given our cars are pretty light to start with.

^ This. Get a pair of slotted Evo rotors, some decent pads and braided lines and you'll have a very decent setup. DBA are very good for rotors.

If you're going to do circuit work then the choice of pads and fluid becomes more important.

Also look for a Cusco brake stopper bracket to reinforce the firewall. Will prevent any flex and result in a firmer pedal.

Very true - good fluid makes a difference if you're going to be repeatedly braking hard.

I looked for some DBA fronts about 6 months ago and heard they don't make them for our cars anymore?

I have rda slotted rotors and evo calipers on my gsr and they stop very well for light gymkhana and street sprints.

This is what I done back in the day. Used to be a common upgrade:

http://www.4gtuner.c...-upgrade/page-2

276mm rotors, VR4 twin piston front calipers, trim factory banjo bolt 3-4mm to suit the VR4 caliper. Just to note, if you do trim the factory banjo bolt, ensure you threat on a nut first. That way when you trim the bolt down, you can unscrew the nut so it can clean up the thread afterward.

More preferable to just get Evo 1-3 twin pistons which would hopefully be more readily available these days, as theyre direct bolt on

Previous cars:
Evo 5 GSR

Evo 8 MR
1994 Lancer GSR (2L , Evo 3 replica)

So looks like the best thing I can do would be to source Evo 1-3 twin pistons. That fits both of my requirements of easy to do and bolt on.

Now the hard part. Finding evo 1-3 calipers.

Why not use the Magna/EVO 296mm discs and re-drill to 4 stud.........add Outlander caliper brackets and twin piston calipers?

I have done this on my cordia with no problems..........looks completely stock!!!

You can use the calipers off of Pajero.....plenty of them around too.

Are the awd magna brakes an upgrade?

Are you referring to the TJ AWD Magna?

if so, they run a cast iron twin pot caliper (with the wider spacing on the bracket IIRC) and 5 lug 294mm rotors.

Ive heard Skyline GTST calipers being used on an Evo 2 IPRA car. Seemed to be a popular upgrade in Japan a while back according to my old Option magazines.

Yeah the S14 caliper was pretty popular like a decade ago, but still needed an adapter bracket and a different rotor. Might as well do the GTO brakes at that rate.

Good point, but the issue is more around pad choice.

Hi mate, what size rims did you have over the Chevy cobalt brembo's?
Im running 16" and it looks like it could be a tight fit..
