I am trying to remove valve springs whilst I have the head off, however generic compressors dont look like they will work with the tight fit of the valve springs in the 4g93t.

Have seen a few old threads with people using custom tools they have built, but all the links are dead. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

looks like it didn't work, was only a video of some guy using the socket and hammer technique.

ps. you use a normal spring compressor tool to get them back on

I use a cheap f-clamp from Bunnings. On the fixed end I put a bit of tube with a window cut in it. It's better if it is welded to the fixed end, but not absolutely necessary. Window onto the spring top, threaded handle end on the valve head, screw in till you can retrieve the collets.
Works for bikes, 93s, 63s lots of things. Just make sure the f clamp is long enough to reach the valve face.
The cutout is maybe a 1/4 of the tube diameter. The tube diameter is best if it's as close to the valve retainer diameter. I think mine might be a bit of old wardrobe tube. Bit thicker than shower rod or curtain rod.

Thanks, will have to have a crack at it this week. Cheers.

Follow up question, should you know the answer...

The crank angle sensor which uses cam position on the intake cam,,,is there any alignment needed for that as I see the unit is adjustable to the head also?

You need to set it with a timing light after earthing the timing connector on the firewall. I also ensure the timing mark is correct on the balancer as they are known to walk on the rubber damper

Pour some kerosene in the ports while the head is on its side to check the valve seal. Relap to fix valve seal if it leaks. Decarbon ports and chambers and piston tops while you there.
Leave a small edge of carbon around edge of piston.

Thanks, had limited time this week. Will take a look.

In regards to lifters, lots of opinions in various posts I have seen...

I have at least gen2 lifters (big hole) and these were done fairly recently. After removing them they are solid, assume this is not safe to just reinstall?

If not, whats ur recommendation for bleeding/cleaning and operation of them before install?

Cheers

Thanks. For the record I actually went with:

worked a treat :)

FYI - Head apart, cleaned up, valves just need a clean and new lifters to arrive before re-assembly

I have a set of genuine viton valve stem seals if you need them.
