Hey Jack, I have read through a lot of old posts (and man there’s a lot lol), but just not really finding the answers I need, considering most the posts are years old.

Anyway, my question is.

i have 1995 GSR awd 4g93t and am thinking about doing an engine swap to a 4g63t.

Have been told (and read here), the better option would be to get a half cut evo1-3, only there is none in Australia and since the prices of these classic evo’s have shot through the roof, I be lucky if I can a half cut for 8g’s, then there’s the import cost which is a bloody killer.

for eg. just ordered evo 2 fenders and bumper from UK and it cost me nearly 2’s to get here ffs, so I really hate to imagine the shipment cost on top of the cost for a half cut these days (if you’re lucky enough to find one).

my question is.

Thinking about getting a jap spec vr4 engine, has all the goodies and also comes with 2.3ltr stroker (basically new engine), and can probably get it for 7g’s.

Am I better to do this now (these days), or is it recommended getting the half cut?

any help, answers, even point me to the right direction for this would be much lay appreciated mate.

cheers

Btw, the engine was built with parts for 350-400kw.

just with price of half cut, shipment and then modifications from half cut to GSR on top, it be a lot of money.

i know it’s gonna cost money either way, but just trying to work out my better options.

cheers

Gearbox and transfer case are a ticking time bomb with 350-400kw unless you spend big dollars on that too.

I know it’s gonna cost me money all in all, but like every project, if you’re willing to spend the money and get it done right the 1st time, hopefully there shouldn’t be any problems.

i work away from home, so time is not a problem lol.

btw mate, I hear a lot of recommendations for Meeks with this sort of stuff, do you know if he makes, or where I can get custom engine mounts to put the vr4 in my GSR?
A good flywheel would be appreciated too.

sorry to bring up stuff that was all in the past posts.

i have spent hours reading what I could lol

You've got me fucked what that means?
"Engine is built to handle 350-400k" ??
Why do you need a custom mount to put vr4 in GSR?
You havent read much on here at all, if you think you need a custom mount to do that!

Just saying what I’ve been told man.

i was told that the motor was been built to handle 350-400kw.

it has forged internals and a 2.3 stroker kit.

i have read your threads on here (I apologise if I’m wording things wrong), been reading threads since I paid for the subscription.

i read in the threads that people did use those mounts, but certain things didn’t fit, so I was just wondering if I could get custom mounts for the vr4 to go in my GSR.

im trying my best to gain knowledge on something I obviously dont know, but I’m here because I was recommended by someone I know.

There is so much stuff on here and it gets somewhat overwhelming, but I am trying to process it all.

i apologise if this is upsetting you.

I’m not a mechanic, or class myself as a “real” car guy, even though I do love cars, so I’m trying to get all the info I can, so I can get all the parts that are needed to do the conversion.

its a jap spec vr4 (Evo 0), from what I’ve been told/researched.

i know there’s a lot I can use from the GSR (from your threads, such as the drive train and gearbox.

Gsr ECU will start it, but recommended I get a different ECU.

I need a 2.0 litre clutch and a clutch pedal box (I think it said), something to do with the GSR clutch pedal box cause tension causing the firewall to flex/crack.

E3 ecu’s can be used, but saw people recommending later ecu’s, such as the E6 ecu.

i need a flywheel for the vr4 due to it being a 6 bolt not a 7.

i was actually going to buy a forged evo 3 block for roughly the same price, but read on one of the threads, that the 6 bolt vr4 engine is overall the better motor because it was stronger. Read that the main problem with the 7 bolt block is a thing called crank walk.

i didn’t even know what this was, so I googled it!
Due to what I read here, I went for the 6bolt vr4 motor instead.

i even researched that and was recommended that if I get one, try get my hands on a jap spec (Evo 0), as this is the better option, especially when doing a conversion.

The engine was for a GSR owner who was going to do a conversion, but sold his GSR to purchase an evo with a built engine!
Have been told everything is there (including the loom), and ready for the turbo of my choice.

I apologise, once again if I am somewhat irritating you by asking about stuff in previous threads, but due to my “learning difficulty”, I get easily confused/lost. I am reading your threads constantly and also googling stuff I don’t know/understand at the same time, so it does get overwhelming.

i may ask things that have already been discussed, but it’s because I’m trying to get a better understanding.

most of the threads are years old, so also rechecking my options in case there are better ways due to things now being updated, since there doesn’t seem to be much action on here these days.

I am trying mate!

cheers.

Not irritating or upsetting anyone, you confused me after my post saying the gearbox and TC will hate life with 350-400kw and then you posted something about a mistype and then put 350-400k which left me wondering wtf you meant! Comprehende??

You don't need a clutch pedal box, you MAY need to strengthen the area around it if yours shows signs of wear and tear.

You don't need any special custom mounts, just a combo of the 2 that fit that engine into the GSR chassis

Did you buy the engine from Gareth?

Sorry for the confusion mate.

i am reading a lot of your threads.

i have read a lot on here!

i wanted to put an evo 2 bumper on, but saw on here that if I wanted to do this, I would need to replace the front fenders as the evo ones are wider than the GSR ones, and I would also need to get the splash trays as the GSR ones wont fit/line up.

i have just bought all these, they were bloody hard to get lol

The vr4 gearbox is not going to do you any good. It has no roll stop mounts on it. But I see you have your GSR gearbox.

Maybe a halfcut from NZ?

I would hate to be doing this now. So many less parts about, and not much forum support.

You can custom the top mount. Bolt the other 3 mounts in, jack the motor till it's level, then fab your top mount. Mine is a GSR rubber part welded to a vr4 mount. I think pics are in my members ride.

Thanks mate.

yeah, parts have been an issue, but have found the parts I needed (Finally).

I’m far off being anywhere near mechanical minded.

i was planning on taking the car somewhere to get the conversion done, so it’s done properly, but just wanted to get all the parts I need to make the job easier for them!

yes I still have the GSR gearbox (car is still standard and together). Can I use the GSR gearbox and get it rebuilt, or am I better just getting an Evo gearbox?

Ignore that last post!
i re-read the threads and said my GSR box should be fine, considering it’s a turbo box.

will get it rebuilt though to make sure it can handle the power, along with the transfer case
