Roof Rail/ribs (RUSTY ROOF)

Hi all,

Everyone knows about the cancer these certain mopdel fac....
Yes im talking about the rusty roof special.

Now....I have bought a new skin a 4 new rails/ribs
(3 in middle, and the rear one)

The only one i cannot find is a brand new front rail to complete the set.

Just wondering if anyone knows where i can get one or has one???

hey how much did u get the rubber sealings for??

im also starting to cop bubbles on my roof paint.. richard said it might be the beginning off roof rust..

any prevention methods that are cheap to do?

Its is the beginning, too late for prevention, you need a new roof.

Depending how bad the rust is you only really need the roof skin/turret. The rust on the ribs usually can be ground back and dont need replacing. Use a silicon based glue or one which wont cause a chemical reaction when it breaks down over time causing oxidisation like the factory glue did. The panel shop which did ours actually spaced between the new skin and existing ground back and repainted ribs

Might have to do that for the front one.

or go to a wreaker and just ask for that whole poiece to be cut off a later than 95 lancer or a wagon as they kept the wagon in production till 2001 and its still the cc body

how about if i sand blast down the roof and respray it.. would that help/work?

Unbolt your interior A-B-C pillar moulds and your seat belt bolts. Then C-A-R-E-F-U-L-L-Y remove your headlining and try NOT to crease it. All CC model Lancers/EVO's/Protons are notorious for roof rust so before you plan a paint job get it CHECKED OUT FIRST and have the under-turret rustproofed or painted as well at the same time by your panelbeater/spraypainter if its OK. If you've already got bad roof rust you've got no alternative but to use a new turret as I've seen people have turrets blasted back to metal, hi-filled and repainted only to have rust reappear months later :roll: Shop around for a price to replace the turret as we were quoted between $2500-$7500 from memory but I called in a few favours and was supplied a turret for $660 and had it fitted and painted for only $1200 more Both front and rear screens have to be taken out while it gets done so bare in mind that added cost if the panel shop doesnt quote you for it up front.

When you guys are referring to a new "turret" are you talking about the top skin part of the roof?

Can you buy that aftermarket?

I know some newer model race cars have carbon fibre roofs but does one exist for the Evo 1-3?

I have terrible roof rust and need to completely replace my roof.

I know this is an old thread but I need help real bad. I also have a sunroof and want to get rid of that problem.

i believe there is a cc carbon roof but id say get out ure wallet an start counting ure money doubt youll get much change out of a few grand plus shipping...

Depending on the cost this could be my cheapest option to fixing my leaky sunroof.

do u reckon u can call on a favour again from ur friend?the blue GSR needs a new roof badly and while i have the money i should get it done

you should get the Carbon roof if your going to race it

I'd love to get the carbon roof. I race occasionally, but it is more of a cost issue. My roof is in really poor shape.

If you guys are saying the manufacturer is CC carbon, I checked the website but nothing is listed as far as I can tell for the EVO 1-3. All I seem to find are wings.
