So does this mean there would be issues with getting a RWC?
Are these cars likely to be barred from the road in the future?
Like if I was to buy it, I'd run into problems in the future?

there was way to many to ban them all as stated earlier most either stay rego'd in Vic or QLD and 4 that I know of are all living in NSW with Vic rego. plates all depends how bad you want it there's ways around everything

I guess what I mean is, if Vicroads call it in, what's the likely outcome?
You will have to return it back to stock

which is with the 1.8' motor i think.. theres been afew evos that i know of that have had their rego canned.. black listed etc.
it all depends who did the work and how legit they did it and all that.

All right, well if it's rego'ed with the 4G63 is there anything else that can go wrong? Obviously I wouldn't want to buy a car that's going to be blacklisted or deregistered ...

cant predict the future lol.. if it gets recalled who knows.. it depends on case by case basis from what i know!
most are ok but there is always a risk with buying a REB/REP lancer.

As it is, with the 2L would not be an issue. the engine was offered in that chasis as a factory option (EVO).
the hard part will be.
how well it was rebirthed? Did they fit intrusion bars, did they fit baby restraints?, does it have all the emission gear the aus delivered on had? Has it got ADR approved seat belts fitted? Does it have a high mount brake light? and so on.
its hit and miss and its best to put up $30 and get a check done by vic roads to see if there is any pending interest on the car. this will tell you if money is owed, if it has a VIV, if it is currently under recall etc. if this comes back all clear then you can rwc and transfer it to your name (In vic anyhow)
Alot of lancers were done on the dodge for rebirthing. they simply brought in the car and swapped plates without doing anything else.

Hmm, sounds like too much of a risk. Even though I live in Melbourne. He's selling without a RWC so I guess there's the chance if I bought it, I'd get shat on by Vicroads.
I see now what an earlier post meant about REP... according to Vicroads it is rego'd with a 6T9REPxxxxxxx VIN number. Does anyone have a Vicroads definition of what REP actually means?

That's my understanding of it...
But yeah the owner says it's an import and those Lancers can't be imported and registered. I wonder if Vicroads keep records of past VIN numbers? Because if they don't I guess that VIN to them would just appear as an Aussie car that's been repaired ...

All cars called in will require the owner to bring the car up to ADR standards, once the car is passed VIC Roads refunds the money spent to bring the ca back up to ADR
The car seems pretty standard and its cheap cant go wrong
Good luck with sale

Are you sure that they refund you your money? any confirmation on this. Im fairly sure that Vic Roads would pretty much tell you its your issue..
No RWC means nothing. Just means you have to take it somewhere that will check for Roadworthy. If it fails, they will tell you what needs repairing, they may be able to complete the repairs. Once passed, its a matter of just registering it under your name.
Now, as per my previous post. I would be running a check on the VIN with VIC ROADS!!! This will tell you if it is flagged and for $30 its great piece of mind..

OFFON - Cool, helpful post thanks mate.
As for the Vicroads thing yeah I ordered the certificate but accidentally checked the snail mail option so I have to wait ...
Yeah I know how roadies work, I thought since there was some doubt with respect to it being an import, I might get more issues than roadworthying an ADM car.
Has anyone seen this thing? I called the owner the other day but it was at the shop so I haven't been able to look yet ...

No Problem
Just call Vicroads to further confirm what the refund is based on, i know its not based on performance mods done to the car...
Ill be paying them a visit soon LoL
Best of luck
Dave
