what i want to know is why was the Lancer doing a right hand turn???? and if he was how is that drag racing???
I'm guessing the lancer was heading straight at a decent speed (which indicates drag racing) and the taxi was turning right and didn't see him coming. That's only my guess from this thread though. I didn't see the news report.

something like this..
Agreed. A common stack. Happens in 2 ways.
a) "taxi" is just plain retarded and pulls out in front of an oncoming car "gsr" that is travelling at normal speed due to a lapse of concentration or misjudgement. TAXI DRIVERS FAULT.
"taxi" makes turn in a gap that appears to be safe to do so however "gsr" is travelling well above the speed limit (illeagally) causing the gap to close unexpectedly quick resulting in a crash. Yes, it took both of thier actions to cause the crash but in the eyes of the law it is absolutely clear. GSR DRIVERS FAULT.
In this case from all the info i've seen so far = GSR drivers fault.
A lot of ignorant people figure its the taxis fault for "not giving way"
Thats like saying "im gonna drive round fast as i want an if ya get in my way its your own fault". Not quite, and if thats your approach or this gsr drivers approach i'd find a good lawyer if ya wanna keep your ass viginity by avoiding jail.

Was the smash because of a high powered vechile
OR
was it because of speed/lack of judgement?
Lets say it was speed/lack of judgement, then how is disallowing people not to be driving high powered vechiles going to fix/stop this from occuring again? Any car can speed. Whilst i strongly agree that young people should not be driving high powered vechiles for at least 1 year before moving onto better things (imo 3 years is too long), if you replaced the lancer in the crash with an excell, you have to ask yourself, would it have made the news? Proberly, but I'm frankly quite fed up with the media blaming 'high powered vechiles' as the cause rather than a driver fault. Obviously our society likes to take the easy way and take the easy path rather than setting up a better/more advanced driving skill/course. Perhaps better education in highschool/yr12 would also help make a difference, but hey, that just too hard.

it would be a combination of both... driver education and a high powered car

agree totally with you here... notice the first two words in that article... "DRAG RACING" and at the time of writing the article this was merely assumptions.
below pictured pretty much shows a long straight stretch of road... now i am in no way sticking up for the mitsi but there have been cercumstances in all of our lives where we have seen someone approaching fast and gotten a little angry over someone driving in excess of the limit coming towards us...
mitsi travelling east ---->
taxi man pullying into that road ^
looking at the damage the taxi is definatly heavily damaged on the front right, with impact pretty much right in the midd;e of the fender...
its tough to see where the mitsi is damaged, but judging by the way the glass has been shattered we can assume that it hit almost straigt on... slightly favouring the front driver...
i can assume two things... the taxi honestly didnt see the mitsi and has pulled out and got collected... or the taxi driver has pulled out but the mitsi has seen it, shat, and then turned the same way that the taxi driver was heading...
either way its truely tradgic...
