I reckon a good combo would be to use a EVO TD05 cartridge + exhaust wheel (maybe even clipped a little), grab one of Mark's TD06 comp housings, 20G wheel, and one of the aftermarket 070 cast turbine housings he's also got to enjoy a nice TD06/TD05 hybrid 20G  More power than EVO 3 turbo and better life expectancy out of the turbine housing as well  Those 060 VR4 housings suck in a major way and crack way too easily around the wastegate flapper hole, and a 070 tubine housing on a 1.8 aint as bad as everything makes it out to be IMO  Mark have you looked into making these combos? also maybe even use a T04 wheel in the same outfit which I think Steve Murch used to do when making his 22G & 25G turbos in NZ.

Correct me if im wrong, but i think the limit with a TD05h front is a 20g compressor wheel. You can put a TD06h turbine wheel in an 070 housing too, with a bit of machining.

No way a TD06H turbine will fit in a EVO3 070 housing not enough material.

Mark, so with the EVOIII TD06SL2-20G that you sell, is the 070 machined out to 8cm or something larger?

Our GTpumps EVO3 070 turbine housing flows much better than the stock EVO3 housing, it is "as cast" fully ported.
The great benefit of this is it has the standard wall thickness where if you ported a normal EVO3 housing this much it would be quite thin.
We do not machine anything other than to fit the TD06SL2 turbine, the turbine inlet/entry is already massive.

Hey Mark,
What is the advantage of the 11 blade exhaust wheel?

The TD06SL2 is bigger than the TD05H and has more flow, it was originally developed for TRUST. It's a LOT lighter than a TD06 wheel but flows almost as much, it's good for circuit work.

This is pretty much what is on Tenaga's EVO Jumbuck, except they got the TD06SL2 wheel as well and are using external gate :)
We have a customer in the ACT with the same turbo using internal gate.

We can build the EVO3-20G with a TD06 3" inlet cover we just have to weld on the wastegate actuator mounts.

Speak to kyp at ATP.. he has put bigger things then a 25G in a TD06H-20G Comp cover.. and mines proof of that.. its got a much bigger wheel and more efficent wheel then a 25G.. obviously im not going to give the specs away of what sort of front wheel it has but lets just say its a Garrett one.

Oh yer and this sort of turbo for example on a 4G93T.

Makes 240kw @ 4500rpm on a 1.8 litre.. on pump fuel and 20-22psi.. so obviously on a 4G63T it shoudl see boost much earlier.

i beg to differ ;) seen it done many of times!
i guess again it comes down to what sort of technique is used and who is doing but this has been done many many many times before.

if you want proof i can actually post up a picture of some machining work and this sort of wheel in an 070

AFAIK everything..

they dont have a balancing machine to balance the shaft and turbine wheels.. its about 200k worth of machine.. so yer

If we go bigger than 20G we use a Garrett 60-1 compressor wheel, no particular reason for this only that the bigger MHI compressor wheels are way too expensive.

yerp genuine MHI EVO 1/2/3 070 rear housing.. STOCK machined out..
ill see if he will let me take a pic.. hehehehe

if the guy who machines your housings out cant do it.. then obviously theres a trick to getting it to work hey...

mark,

what is the price of a tdo6 compressor housing?

TD06-20G 3" inlet cover is $188.00, it's the one we use on the GTP6208 see the picture on the turbo page of our web site.
This will fit directly on a VR4/EVO1-3 turbo but you need a 20G wheel as well of course otherwise you are not going to make much boost :)

how its done, ill let you figure it out from a pic of the rear housing ;)

Interesting question Mark,I was under the impression that the Evo 3 housing doesn't have as much meat in it as the other 070 housing.

How much time do you spend in a parking lot with your performance car? If you do a lot of parking lot driving, and hang out in parking lots, chances are you are a ricer, go home and read import tuner. If you’re complaining about noise you should not be modifying your car. You should also consider no longer being a man, please hand in your genitals at the door.

Yes when they revised the turbine housing for the EVO3 they made it a much lighter thin wall casting.
There is hardly any extra material. TD06H is a huge wheel and requires approx 60mm bore there is no way you can bore it that size.
Maybe you can machine in the wheel and have a smaller than optimum bore outlet size?
EVO1 and EVO2 turbine housing is MUCH thicker and you can do more with them.

Is it possible just to weld on a BA Falcon wastegate flapper disc thingo to an 070 housing?
I've made the wastegate hole a bit bigger and I'm not very confident in the ability of the stocko disc thing.
It covers the hole ok, but only just. I'm thinking it might not seal very well, as the hole isn't a perfect circle anymore. :o
Also, the housing already has a few cracks in it, but nowhere near as bad as one 060 housing I've seen!!
I don't really wanna have to buy a new housing either, as I've spent ages working on this one.

Also, would you guys recommend welding up the cracks?
They're not that big......:P......but this is a stock JDM engine and one of my mates reckons that the cracks will get bigger very quickly under high boost. :(

I tried taking some pics, but they don't really show the cracks.

It is very difficult to weld Cast Iron. Not many places will attempt it.

Also if you do weld it, the material of the welds & cast will not be the same so when it does heat up / cool down, the rates of expansion and contraction will differ and may cause more problems later down the track.

As for the seal of the wastegate flapper to your ported hole, if this becomes an issue, you could also go external by removing the flap & actuator and modifying your dump pipe to accept and external gate.

Otherwise remove the flapper and install a larger sized one. I believe GT pumps would have one.

Couldn't you buy a new 070 which already has all that work done to it from GTPUMPS?

just buy a new one from extreme psi, it'll save you a packet and only takes a week to turn up
http://www.extremeps...&cat=426&page=1

Compleately argree /\ to rebuild a turbo and have it balanced not just marked and reassembled you'll get ass raped in Aust, you would be better off getting it converted to a 18g or 20g if you are going to rebuild one doesnt end up much cheaper at all than buying a compleately new one and having a brand new spanker you know will go the distance and wont let you down.
