How much time do you spend in a parking lot with your performance car? If you do a lot of parking lot driving, and hang out in parking lots, chances are you are a ricer, go home and read import tuner. If you’re complaining about noise you should not be modifying your car. You should also consider no longer being a man, please hand in your genitals at the door.

It was cheap and compact :)

Cos he wants to have as many different brands of car parts as possible....

you know me, just to be different :P

How loud is it Jay? I have one that I was thinking of mounting under the dash.

using proper mounts its actually relatively quiet, it does sound like a jet taking off on start up though.

If its going inside, you could use some of the newer cars electric power steering units..

It turns it self on at 1600rpm  (our harmonic balancer/main pulley is smaller then the factory BMW unit so probably turns on around 900rpm on a BMW).

Its a 2 wire layout, but the 2nd wire is BSS-2 (according to the series, BSS-3 is more universal) control feedback for the BMW ecu, Alternator still works fine so far..

I have gotten it to peak fully loaded approx ~110Amp at idle  (electric power steer under load), and a constant ~89Amps fully loaded at idle, all with a tiny AGM battery (fullriver HC20)

Need to test it on the road, it runs a decouple pulley so will be interesting to see if it helps the engine at all with rev/decel at all.

I have same tiny battery in same spot as you.
I was wanting a diesel alternator (with vacuum pump) but with the mitsi style ecu controlability. Seeing that you have custom mounted yours opens up choices considerably.
Nice work as always!

I did have a look at some diesel alternators with the vac pump on the back.

They were to long, it would easy hit the dump pipe on normal engine and be way to close to heat, bust still possible..

Also need to upgrade to a bigger battery, thanks to the power steering pump, need a bigger reserve capacity...

Back to read more crazy from JayRome - funnily enough i was looking at one of those Astra electric power steering pumps recently thinking it could be a good thing for the borg.

But now that you mentioned it sounds like a jet starting up i think its even more likely i will do this, i like noisy things!

Motorbike lipo?

Would work in a drag car.... doubt it would handle a daily driven car. would also depend on what type of Lipo, some have fairly pedantic charging requirements...
