I know quite a few people that weld the exhaust housing to the exhaust manfold. 100% no leaks EVER.

If it's a good turbo to start off with, then usually you are are fine. Don't push it past it's efficiency limits and it will last for a long time. But yes, when it does blow, remove mani and turbo as one and replace them or grind off turbo.
Quite a few race cars do them, as the heat becomes insane, and the different levels of expansion/contraction means forever loosening of bolts and loosing power.
