Another question...
I seams we are going ahead with the Van, not the Triton.
Is there any chance the Evo 3 front brakes will bolt up to the van? Probably not, I could make it work if I had to.
Anyone know the size of the van brakes? Pajero front brakes?
Anyone know if the van gearbox is wideblock or narrow block?
Should I use the Evo flywheel or the van flywheel. Thanks.

van flywheel as it will fit in the bell housing no problems..
not sure if the van gearbox is wide or narrow..
i know my 1996 Mitsubishi 'SJ' Express Van 2.0 Carby is the narrow block which is the VR4 one.
Could be dif on the 4g64 vans tho.

Thanks guys.
I have started on this now. The van had a wideblock 4G64 EFI motor. The motor is out now.
The EVO 3 motor is narrow, 310mm.
I now need a gearbox to proceed. I think I need a narrow block gearbox, flywheel and clutch. The van flywheel is too big to use on the EVO3 motor. I suspect I need a gearbox and flywheel of a 2.0 van rather than the 2.4L van.

you will need a gearbox and flywheel from a 7 bolt 2.0 van
late 92 on have 7 bolt engines and from 94 on(sj model)
they also have a hydrolic clutch
yours will also be hydrolic being 96 and 2.4

its a 93 model van.. so i suspect its cable.. my SJ 1996 express is still cable clutch..
you need a box/flywheel from an SH or SJ express.

Thanks guys. The van is a 93 passanger van with seats, and 4G64 EFI and it has hydralic clutch, 7 bolt flywheel, wideblock, power steering, and A/C.
Back seats are gone, turned back into a tradies van.
I will be shopping for a gearbox and flywheel today.

I think the Starion gearbox has the shifter in it, the van needs a remote shifter with linkages on the side of the box.

I just spent $900 at the wrecker, to get a gearbox, flywheel, clutch, tailshaft, clutch pedal and clutch cable. I got the parts from a early 98 2.0 tradesman van.
It seams to me:
All the 90's vans with the 2.0liter have the narrow 310mm spacing and cable clutch. And so the Evo3 4G63 should just bolt in.
All the 90's vans with the 2.4liter, have the wider ~330-340 bolt spacing, and hydralic clutch, bigger flywheel, and different tailshaft length, powersteering. The evo motor will not bolt in, unless you get all the 2.0 stuff.

The motor is bolted in now. All mechanical things have been done. The firewall had to be chopped heaps.
I am now looking for the Evo3 computer pinouts just to check my wiring. Anyone got these? Or a Evo3 wiring diagram?

Of course I found the pinouts on this forum very easily... But it was a headache mapping out the circuit diagram in my head, and having to find the relay pinouts myself. All done now, the motor is running nice.

I work at JDS Auto Imports and did this whole conversion myself. I called in Aaron Martan (Azcustom) to do the stainless intercooler pipes, which are done very well with a TIG and brushed to a nice finish. The customer will get this very shortly once a few gauges and things are sorted.
Original Evo I computer is used. I pulled the harness apart and stipped back wires I didn't need.
The turbo was bolted on 180 degrees, and the throttle was welded on the other end. Apart from that, it bolted in on the same engine mounts. (Well it would have with a 2.0 van, but with our 2.4L van we had to buy the 2.0 gearbox and clutch, flywheel etc...) Custom dump pipe is needed.
With the turbo bolted on backwards, there is alot of work changing all the water and oil lines to custom fittings of some sort. Plus having to pull the turbo apart to rotate the center. The wastegate actuator had to be welded and modified to fit.
The throttle is bolted/welded on as you see, and the TPS (now at the bottom) has to be rotated 180 degrees to clear stuff. Longer throttle cable with custom bracket.
The original Evo I waterpump and thermostate and everything is used, but a huge hole is cut in the firewall with long radiator hoses. The 2.0L vans have a bit more clearance here to start with.
Original radiator is used, with the outlets swaped over. Plastic electric fan controled by the ECU.
A new intercooler from Repco is used, fits in front of the radiator easy with lots of room. Intercooler pipe is tight on the left side, ok otherwise.
The airflow meter is in the original van location, and a stainless tube is made from it, curved into the wheel arch, and back into the engine bay to the turbo inlet.
Unlike the 2.0 vans, you can see I have power steering. The original van oil lines bolt to the Evo powersteering pump. Only had to mod 1 fitting, it was easy.

upping ratio's would help it out as todd's screams through the rev range due to the vans gearbox low ratio's

This might be useful - seeing how someone did it. I don't have any more info though.

You can never have too much horsepower to drive to work...

Ratios seam fine. It is the original diff from the 2.4litre van, not the 2.0 litre.
I suspect the standard clutch is starting to slip under boost. The customer has this car now thank goodness. I'm sick of it.

Yes, clutch is slipping. Anyone have recomendations for a organic clutch?
