What about using a 4g64 block and bolt on your head?
You'll need new pistons and rods
Apart from that, factory crank and get squirters in.
Perfect for the street and track!

yeh i was thinkin bout that baz....dougmo says the block is taller than the 63.....so im wonderin how it would fit......like the mounts and height of the sump off the ground, the 63 sump hangs a bit low as it is stock.....but really the 2.4 would be the way to go with a fuk load of torque:cool:

You get 2.3 litres instead of 2.4 - but who's really going to notice?

Use the 4G63 block and a stroker crank/piston combination instead - straight bolt in when you look at the engine bay side of things and no stress.
You get 2.3 litres instead of 2.4 - but who's really going to notice?
Money wise, it would be cheaper to go a 2.4 block instead of trying to source and buy an evo 4-9 block. But that said a 4G63 with stroker crank and all that would be the go i reckon, if money isnt an issue.

Also, as for 2.3L vs 2.4L, one benifit in 2.4L over 2.3L is a longer skirt piston which will reduce the amount of piston rock in comparison to the 2.3L short skirt pistons. The downside is the additional weight of the full sized piston in the 2.4L setup. But both are good.
As for cost, its pretty much the same for both setups. The only change would be machining for squirters if you go the 2.4L block. As for sourcing the block, what Jstyle says is true. It'll be easier / cheaper to find a 4g64 block over a used evo6-9 block. All the other costs incurred will be much of a muchness.
Either way, 2.3L or 2.4L they will both be better than the 2.0L overall in your application.
If you wanted to, go the 2.4L block / 2.0L crank some long rods and custom pistons. You'll be able to rev that mother out to 10k without any issues!! (they call this the 2.1L destroked motor). The only problem with this is trying to shift at 10,000rpm.

a 2.4L can still rev out to bloody high numbers it is just people are more scared to look at the APC kit they rev theres out to 9600 so you could rev it out to 7000 with no issues or even 8000 with no issues as long as you have the mods to do it safe eg headwork

still not a massive revver because of the rod ratio though but as you say 7g is fine

the 2.1L?
the 2.1 will utilise longer rods and lighter pistons therefor you would get more torque than a 2.0L and also be able to rev it out alot more due to the improved rod ratio.
The rod ratio on:
2.1 destroked motor will be 1.84
2.0L which is 1.70
2.4L which is 1.5
1.6L using a 1.6L crank in a 2.4L block gives us a ratio of 2.13!!!! This thing will rev its guts out!! somebody build an NA one of these, it'll eat the honda's up!
Ideally, 1.5 and up is what we should aim for.
and example:
Honda's a considered to be high revving motors.
The B18C integra type r has a ratio of 1.58
The B16A's out of the type R civics have a 1.74
So all in all, although the stroker ratio's aren't that great, it's still not too bad!
a 2.6L based one 102mm stroke / 150mm rods (stock length) and shorter pistons will work out to be a ratio of: 1.47. This is where we go downhill.
Now if the 2.6L stroker had 102mm stroke with longer rods ie 162mm rods, we would have 1.58. This is ok but the position of the pins in the piston would not be ideal.
I'm guessing the 2.6L stoker would have 102mm stroker and 156mm rods with some sort of stroker style pistons which gives its a ratio of 1.52.
So it would still be ok.
Harry, I think the destroked 2.1L will be able to rev well beyond 10,000rpm safely. I honestly believe alot of so called 2.0L guys are either running a destroked 2.1L or if sticking with the 2.0L block, they are running a long red setup. Having the standard 2.0L combo rev to 10k+ would be difficult based on the weight of the piston. Unless of course they have super strong rods / crank.
Go the 2.3 or 2.4L Harry.
They are the most practical as rods will be off the shelf, so are the pistons.
