Im looking at getting some 4 point harness's to go with my bucket seats im putting in...is this gonna cause me to get a nice yellow decal on my window from the boys in blue?
Ive heard you can have them in the car so long as they are engineered mounting positions.
anyone know for sure?

Depends on your state regs, I know in Tas and S.A that you have to maintain your standard seatbelts if you have harnesses fitted in the car.

No point fitting harness permanently in the car as UV rays destroy them! ie.......only have the harness fitted when you are doing track days.

wow, this is information i was un-aware of...but my windows are so damn dark that uv rays arent really a problem....good to know though, thanks

well theyre fine, but since i put my coilovers in ive found myself bouncing and sliding round on the seat during the more "spirited driving"

so im lookin into some harnesses to fix that problem but i dont wanna be constantly hassled about em

Perhaps better seats might be a better option!

YES as the only way to have them at an allowed angle (unless you want to die), rights of the use of the back seat

The JDM bride seats are tiny. I cant even squeeze my but into them.

are u trying to say i will lose my back seat due to having the harness bolted on the angle
down into the backseat mounts?

You cannot mount onto the bottom of the front seat mounts, how will that save you if the seat breaks, check the link i posted

Mine bolt onto the rear seatbelt mount points, and this is on the limit of the angle allowed (only in when im racing)

The end attachments of the shoulder harness must also be installed at appropriate angles. The ideal position is anywhere between 5� below and 30� above the driver's shoulder, as seen in part C of the Figure.
If the upper attachment point falls significantly below the driver's shoulder, then a spinal compression injury is likely to occur. In an accident situation, the shoulder belts pull down and back on the torso as they resist the forward motion of the driver. The resultant restraint force compresses the spinal column and will add to the stresses in the spine already caused by the force of the crash impact.

should it just go to the stock seat belt points in the front?

I have fitted mounts (eyelets - clip harnesses) onto my rails (about the stock points) (welcome to have a look)

At the moment I'm installing my seat onto the rails, then it's the head scratching about where to mount the eyelets.

To the topic, A mate of mine has harnesses in his GSR, never really been an issue, I think the cops told him once that he is meant to be wearing the standard 3 point belt at the same time, But never got into real trouble over it. I don't think you would be wearing it around all the time as it would be a pain in the arse anyway.

I think in most states (it certainly is in QLD), it is illegal to wear harnesses while driving on the road. You can have them in the car, but just don't use them. And if you have ever tried to drive on the street with harnesses, you will know why. You can't look over your shoulder, you can't lean forward to change the volume on the radio etc etc. I used to hate driving my rally car to scrutineering because of that, in traffic, it was just plain dangerous.

I have been think the exact same thing as Rob323, the lack of checking blind spots could be a problem, plus the added enjoyment of trying to reach for a parking ticket.

The harness losing it's strength due to UV has changed my mind about leaving the harness in the car.

I had one in my car for a while and I agree entirely, as well as not being able to look over the shoulder, the big one for me was not being able to learn forward to see past parked cars/etc at intersections.

Plus the pain in the arse it is having to adjust/tighten every damn strap everytime you put it on is a real pain for short trips :x
