Hello all,

I've done a quick search and haven't found anything. My galant was running fine before, but now for some reason it's barely moving when pressing accelerator, misfiring/hesitation, then hitting boost and launching itself - and i dunno wtf is going on, as i haven't touched anything.

My water temp sensor seems to be a little bit cracked up top, which i know may cause idle issues and such, but this seems to be ignition/timing - plugs and leads are all connected, so i dunno what the hell's happened to it, especially seeing as i haven't touched anything.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
George

Have you changed your leads or pulled your plugs yet?

Nope. Sorta suspecting something else. Leads look fine, and all connections are on, and i don't think the plugs would foul that quickly. Whole issue seems to have come about between turning the car off, taking the battery out to charge it, putting it back in, and turning it on again.

Played with it tonight when was more clear/could hear better; is a short in the leads or something.

Anybody selling a COP setup for cheap? :P am thinking of upgrading now rather than later...

I reckon your stock coils will be sweet for anything over 350kw. Try sourcing a fresh set of leads, or even borrow some to see if that is definitely the issue before you splash out on some new ones :)

Could hear the spark jumping when rev it on idle, so might just replace leads and plugs. Thinking maybe top gun 8.8mm leads?

Concerning thing with stock coils is that the design i think is problematic; and pulling leads off caused the spark to jump around near the coil pack; hence why i was thinking COP might be a better alternative; but i'm not sure i can afford the $450 for it, or if is worth my while spending that compared to thick leads and good plugs.

Thanks for the info. Just mechanics i know said no good coz the design makes them wear the insultation between the coils, which causes problems. But yeah, if they sweet, I'll just get new leads/plugs maybe too for now.

Anybody recommend a specific brand? Top Gun 8.8MM leads apparently retail for $178. Any other good options?

Cheers.

Ok guys; changed the leads;
Same shit, different day. It's still messed up.

Also doesn't idle cold. Engine cuts out. I can't hear the spark jumping, but maybe because am in drivers seat, nobody to assist today.

So if it's not the leads... Did i maybe miss something reconnecting the battery? There's 2 things to connect to the +ve, and the earth only to the earth.

Car has DSM link computer. Could disconnecting the battery have reset it? If anybody else has one? It sounds like it's only the 2G motors that the computer resets itself with; and i'd disconnected it numerous times prior to this happening, and it was fine. Need car to be running asap!

As an idea: could it be the coil packs that are stuffed? Is what i keep being told by local mechanic - based on it arcing across itself when pull lead off.

DSM link hard stores the memory. I'd say its another issue, possibly the spark plugs, spark plug gaps, coil pack, ignitor, or C.A.S

Anybody know who supplies new coils? Or roughly what they go for? Are sonata ones meant to be compatible?

Something like this maybe?

Check that the spark plugs are in good condition, screwed in tight, also that they are the right type and the gap is correct.

This isn't a boost leak problem is it? Called up Meek and spoke to Chris, who said he doubts it's a coil pack, and maybe is boost leak issue?

Need to sort the car out asap so can deal with rego!!!!!!!!! (without spending a mint changing things that don't need ot be changed)

You said that you can hear a spark shorting out somewhere near the leads didnt you??? BUT if its not spark rtelated maybe investigate these other possible causes...

Boost leak can give you similar symptoms to lack of power/ instant power response.

Something else that can give you the same symptoms is your turbo not spinning properly due to dodgey siezed bearings or the compressor wheel touching the housing due to wear, then all of a sudden breaking free giving you boost when its not supposed to come on.

Perhaps its even fuel related... maybe a bad batch of fuel, fuel filter is dirty, FPR is fukt?

There can be several causes and its basically a process of elimination by checking out each one.
