Nice update Lewis.
Bummer bout the engine, but a rebuild will only do it good!
I had to angle my radiator brackets for the ASI radiator too
and yeh, have a look at those oz's!

yeh the Oz's would be nice, ive still got 9 good ones (but more would be nice!) and im just one short of making a coffie table out of the damaged ones!
But unfortunatly for now the $$ will have to go towards the engine for now.
Your right Dean rebuild will definatly do it good! and i got some nice alloy plate to make some new brackets.
hopefully it will be all pretty straight foward as 6 weeks doesnt give us alot of time!

I've really neglected updating this! First update since '09 whoops!
We did a standard bottom end rebuild, just with some added strength from ARP rod & head bolts and a MLS head gasket
The engine built came close to the final event for the year with was the South Australian Rally Sprint championships in Kuitpo Forest. I got the motor in on the Thursday before the Sunday event, after starting it up found that the water pump was leaking so ordered a new water pump from Ralliart, which was freighted overnight and arrived Friday. Fitted the new water pump Friday night, ran the motor in on the Saturday and stuck it on the trailer sat night to go rallying Sunday.
The effort was worth it as we finished the event equal first outright. It was pretty amazing, as after nearly 100km competition, we were equal to 1/10th of a second with James Rodda in his Maximum Motorsport '99 STi!
In 2010 we didnt do many events, as Sarah & I got Married, the Evo did get a bit of a clean up for wedding duties however!
We did decided to have a crack at Rally of South Australia again, as its always been our favourite event with the best roads.... All was going well and we were running around 3rd of 4th in the SA championship before a slight error in my pace notes meant I took the wrong line and braked way to late over a fast (4th gear) crest. The result was that we were wayyy offline for a fast right through a gate. I decided I was never going to make the corner, so instead decided to bail out wide and aimed for a gap to the left of the gate post.. between a huge log and the fence gate post its self.... unfortunately the gap was about 1cm narrower than an Evo 3! I clipped the gate post with the rear left wheel... the result of the impact speaks for itself!

After....
Im proud to say we did finish the stage on 3 wheels and drove the last km like this.. and even recorded a time, although it wasn't very good. A few spectators scored some bits from the car were we crashed!
Here is the gap we didnt quite fit through, note the damage on the edge of the log... sooo close
It was a bit of work to get the car onto the trailer but the service boys did manage it.. top job guys!
Other than the obvious damage, and the death of yet another Oz Rallye wheel, it did a lot of damage to spots harder to see. It ripped the trailing arm mount out of the chassis, along with the rear subframe mounts, the lateral links both broke so my work to strengthen the mounts prevented the captive nuts being pulled out of the chassis rail. The wheel was actually punched back and up through the boot floor, so the floor, rail and part of the tower were all destroyed... There was also a lot of damage to the sill along the length of the car.
Here it is with all the bits pulled off ready for the massive repair job to commence.

A MASSIVE thankyou to Paul (265T) for his work to repair the car.. If anyone needs any panel work done he is your man. To do this size job in my shed was an impressive task!
Here is what it looked like with all the damaged panels cut away... The roll cage did an amazing job of holding everything in place, in fact it didn't move at all. It was so straight tat with all the old tower cut away the new one fit in perfectly. Its amazing given the damage around it and the force of the impact. (Probably around 70kph)
A nice CC lancer sedan donated a new tower, floor, chassis rail, trailing arm mount, and all the outer skin..
The new trailing arm mount welded in place
Here is the replacement tower, chassis rail and floor etc in place.. I've re seam welded all the new panel for guaranteed strength
Getting there... Trial fit of new doors, plus the whole outer panel
All fixed ready for painting..
And all painted.. Im pretty happy with the finish as I sprayed it myself at home..
Another example of Pauls professional work... Joins what joins??
Not a great photo, but here it is all done, other than a new seam in the boot floor, you would never know it was damaged. It even wheel aligns better now than it did before.
Stay tuned for another update soon.. (sooner that last time!)
