I used to sell digi cams, so unless you are keen to go second hand what illusion what saying on the first page is pretty accurate...
Cant really go wrong with either of the brands.
If you've got a budget of around 400, you cant acually look at $500 odd cameras, most have around a 30% mark up on rrp.
Now go do your best to shaft the salesman
