Checkmate, Reichen's EVO 2 takes back the Mitsubishi Record 237 MPH!

10 April 2010 - 06:51 PM

I just got off the phone with Mike Reichen at Hot Rod Magazine's Street Car Challenge standing mile competition. At base pressure of 24 psi it went 202mph. After checking the datalog and seeing everything with the track was OK, he put the boost controler back in and set it for "KILL" mode. Mike Reichen's EVO 2 just took back the World's fastest EVO record as well as the World's fastest Mitsubishi record with a heart stopping 237 MPH!!!Posted Image This is in a full metal panel, full glass, carpet, all door panels, headliner street class EVO that weighs over 2750 with driver with a off the shelf Borg Warner S400 74mm.

In car video by next week!Posted Image

Mike would like to thank all of the guys at http://www.douglasautoworks.com/
for all of there hard work. They left no stone unturned in the effort of making sure everything mechanicaly and fabrication wise was correct, and had the car ready in time.

Shearer Fabrications for an ultra efficient header and intercooler that can't be beat!

Class One Engines out of Freeport, IL. Without there excellent machine work and attention to detail the 4g63 wouldn't stay together after a punishing 1,000+ awhp for 1 mile.

Head Dynamics for a excellent port job that can make over 1,000 awhp at only 40 psi.

Arias Pistons for there rock solid pistons that can handle anything Mike throw's at them.

All of his friends that support him and help him achieve what a couple of years ago was considered impossible in a little white 4 door box on wheels!

My full weight EVO 2 street car hits 200 mph in the standing mile!

02 April 2010 - 04:53 AM

I took my EVO 2 down to The Texas Mile to see what it would do exactly as it sits with a street tune on E85 at 38 psi, Sumitomo z rated all season street tires, stock EVO 2 breaks with upgraded pads, ground control coil overs with gr2 shocks and full interior. This tune and boost at GLD traped 155 mph. I made a semi-easy pass not wanting any trans issues 1,200 miles away from home after spending over $1,500 to prepare for this trip. All I can say is at 190 mph it's rock solid, at 195 it starts to move around a little, and at 205 mph (confirmed by datalogger gear vs. rpm) it's nerve racking.Posted Image I got out of it a couple of hundred feet before the finish line and coasted to a 200.2 mph! The Hawk HP pads with stock rotors were about at there limit with only about 15 feet before I ran out of real estate. Still pretty damm good without a chute!Posted Image

With a quality suspension, 17" low profile performance tires, and upgraded rotors it would be way better, but I wanted to see my EVO be an all purpose car that can drag, do high speed runs, and can be caught in any weather condition and get home safely without breaking my bank account.

After talking to several standing mile officials at the track that also run there cars there, they said at 205 mph letting off where I did could of costed me as much as 5 to 10 mph vs. staying under acceleration thru the timing clocks. I also had at least another 6 psi of boost to go which equates to at least 120 awhp more. Instead of being greedy and shoot for a full out pass I decided that I would take my 200.2 MPH slip, drive my running car onto the trailer, and leave knowing that I have a true 200+ mph street car.

Thanks to Douglas Autoworks for preping my EVO 2 for Texas. They worked on it thru the weekend before to make sure everything was correct.

Also thanks to Mike Reichen for lending a hand and his tow rig.

Thanks to APM for there fuel cell and rear suspension bracing.

And thanks to Nate from TPG tuning for getting me an EVO 3 rear end in time.

Without the support above I would of never made the trip.

1994 EVO 2 LHD conversion

07 January 2010 - 12:40 PM

This is my 1994 EVO 2 LHD conversion using a Mirage front clip for the firewall, vin #, steering rack, and dash board. The car was built by a local Rally builder shop as one of it's employee's daily driver. Then in '03 they brought over the EVO 8 to the U.S. so he sold it to a buddie of mine. In '04 my buddie needed cash to start his business so I grabbed it from him. The car has a 2.0 6 bolt with Arias 9.5 to 1 pistons, Crower rods, ported VR-4 head, FHR intake manifold with a Nissan Q45 tb, Autronic SM2, Bosch 1600 cc injectors, ARC 2 ignition, DV/DT divided T4 exhaust header with a Borg Warner S474 turbo set to 39 psi on E85 pump gas. It put down 855 awhp at 40 psi with a mild 12 degrees of maximum timing advance. The turbo has at least another 150 whp and 10 psi in it, but my A1000 aeromotive fuel pump couldn't take any more. The best trap speed at this boost was 154 mph and the best ET on all season street tires was 9.9@150mph. I threw 26" slicks and went an easy 9.8 with a smooth 1.68 60 ft. The next pass I tried to launch it and I busted the T-case and rear diff. I'm actually looking for an EVO 2 or 3 rear diff. PM me if you want to sell me one.

Thanks.
