Buying another RVR

02 May 2013 - 12:53 AM

Hey Guys

After the mrs sold her GSR she is now looking for an RVR (non turbo unfortunately, although just for shits and giggles i have taken a couple of turbo ones for test drives to try convince her :))

Now she is quite keen on a 1999 non turbo 2.4 GDI Sports Gear.
Drove down to took if for a test drive and had a horrible shudder under acceleration as though it wasnt firing on all 4. Took to a mechanic down there and he mentioned this was common for a GDI motor if they sit for some time. The owner left the car at the mechanics and have just advised that they have left it running for a few hours each day and everything is all good now.

Just keen to hear if anyone else has any other info on the GDI aspect of the motor, after a bit of research im getting mixed reviews about it

Here is a link to the specific car, not that it has much detail about the car.

Engine Lagging under boost

12 March 2013 - 01:01 AM

Hey Guys

having an issue with the GSR, when you put your foot down (doesnt even need to be much) the car just seems to die, only way to get past this is to very gradually ease the throttle on and it will push through. Was looking at the pile of receipts we got with the car and noticed one was for "lacking power under acceleration" in this receipt the garage has found the coil pack to be arcing. Coil Pack was replaced and road test proved satisfactory, this was two years ago.

how do i test to see if the coil pack is arcing again?
any help or other ideas to a solution would be great,

cheers

1990 VR4

04 February 2013 - 09:38 AM

Hey Guys
previously had a 1996 Mitsi SSG RVR making some good power for a family wagon, unfortunately it didnt survive a t-bone crash.

managed to replace the hole with this 1990 VR4, have 5k worth of receipts for engine rebuild when i bought it with a blown turbo
Basic Mods when purchased (aside fromt the RS gear)
RS bonnet
RS front bar
RS front doors
3" exhaust system
38mm external wastegate
some 17s
10.5 eagle leads
lowered suspension
front strut brace

once it made it home it received the following from my crashed RVR
Stainless exhaust manifold
T3T4 turbo
matched up the exhaust and plumb back for wastegate
510cc injectors
EVO AFM
Walbro 500hp fuel pump
600x300 front mount
new custom intercooler piping
GFB Mach ll BOV
Apexi SAFC ll
Gizmo IBC
Gauges and sounds
Battery relocation to boot

here are some pics when i first got her

decided to take it off the road again and have added the following
Aftermarket intake manifold
80mm throttle body
Aftermarket Fuel rail
1000cc precision injectors
Emprom ECU with Razza custom chip
Adjustable Fuel Pressure reg
Slightly de-loomed, looking to tidy up round the fuse box next
Deep Dish Suede drift style Steering wheel.

also decided that no longer having a use for the front brakes of the RVR measured them up and the mounting points were the same, managed to match up some 8G Galant 4 Stud discs that were the same measurements as the 5 stud RVR disc,

currently saving for a set of adjusties as rear shocks are poked, then cert, and tune :)

Future plans
Alloy Radiator
Screamer pipe
Body needs some TLC
Also just purchased some old school rear window louvers,
adjustable rear camber arms as seen in a current thread on here
4 Bolt rear end

would love to know your thoughts
cheers

Cambelt Engine Mount

03 February 2013 - 04:16 AM

Hey Guys

looking to get rid of the factory cambelt side engine mount to tidy things up a little plus give me a bit more room to sort the wastegate, is an evo 1/2/3 mount a straight replacement?

thanks
