#343275 Gearbox build recommendations?

Posted by LumpyVR4 on 13 May 2022 - 07:33 AM

My geabox saga has been going for a while now because parts are basically impossible to get. I've ended up importing an EVO 2 RS gearbox from Malaysia, and today I took delivery of these. :D

#343176 EOI evo 3 input and 1st

Posted by LumpyVR4 on 11 August 2021 - 03:06 AM

I'm weighing up whether to sell my evo3 input and 1st, and go aftermarket gear set. Haven't quite decided.

So is anyone interested in a new evo3 input shaft and 1st gear? Price would be $900 delivered in Aus. I would ship OS but extra shipping would have toe be added to the price.

#341444 Home made shroud

Posted by LumpyVR4 on 14 June 2018 - 03:17 AM

I should take ECMlink out of my sig. I tried to install it. Got initial setup done no problem, but once the car was warm I had knock issues off the line and massive over fueling at WOT. I posted logs on DSMtuners and the ECMlink forum and no one was interested in helping me so I gave up and went back to my Meek burned prom and 055 MAF. I'll have to use it with my upcoming (once I finish buying parts) stroker build with Evo head and Speed Density though.

In answer to your question (using the factory fan triggers), yes without the shroud the fan was always running. Now it only runs for maybe a minute at a time.

Since I replaced my dead stock fan with a garden variety thermofan, traffic has been an issue. In an effort to remedy this I whipped up a shroud today to see if running without one was my problem.

Update: Works a treat. I know it being winter helps, but now with the car sitting idling the fan cycles on and off like it should. I knew it would help, but I'm surprised it made that much of a difference.

Got a friend to bring me a present back from the US.

94mm stroke. I decided to trade off between torque and revs, and keep an OKish rod ratio.

#331830 Air flow per rev too high

Posted by LumpyVR4 on 23 July 2016 - 09:25 AM

Got the car to idle with sane MAF comp / dead time numbers today. My biss was to blame.

When I finished my engine install, I did a leak check and found one at the isc motor. In hind sight, I must have set the biss with this leak ages ago. Fixed the leak = biss / isc all wrong. My isc count was 100. Got that back to 30 and with 10% Maf comp and 300us dead time I have a decent idle with .35 airflow per rev.

Plan on a test drive / auto MAFcomp tomorrow.

Wow, I believe that is the 6th off the line of the Aus spec cars. I assume that it's a '90 car?

IT WORKS!! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Once I got fuel pressure she started off slow, then I tickled her up to 1500 and the ISC figured out what was going on.

Ended up having to take the radiator to a shop to fix the bung so I had it tested.

It looks like I'll need a new fan because my old one has decided to retire after being out of the car so long. (I assume. I need to check it is getting 12v) During the engines run temp got to 3/4 and no fan.

Engine wasn't rebuilt, just had new manifold and turbo, and the jspec oil housing/cooler added while it was out.

With the lines to the filter un-routed the ends of them area few inches higher than the top of the engine. With the sensor out I pumped a little oil into the filter in hose until it came out the sensor hole. Then I put the sensor back in and pumped in about half a liter to prime the pump. I also pumped half a liter into the filter out line. With the end of the hose higher than the engine, I figure some of it would get to the bottom end. I had previously filled the filter which is nice and easy because I mounted it facing up.

After about 30 seconds of cranking (I actually stopped and gave it one last go) I got pressure :D

I had to redo the IC mounts. It just fits.

I'm so close. All I have to do is add oil and it's good to go. But I want to be fresh in case there's a problem, so it'll have to wait for next weekend.

Need to tweak the bumper brackets a bit, but it's getting there.

I should be ready to fire her up next weekend or the next at worst, just waiting on a bit of IC pipe and I have to do all of the fluids.

Not sure on the best approach to get oil back to the bearings after 7 months. should I pull the plugs and crank until I have pressure, or just try to fire it up?
