1997 Starwagon Tailshaft centre bearing

22 March 2014 - 10:21 AM

I have a 1997 Starwagon 2wd auto 4g64, I need to get a tailshaft centre bearing replacement on the two peice tailshaft the Van has but I have tried everywhere in Brissy/Ebay/Gumtree and cant get one in Australia that doesnt cost a small fortune.

Does anyone have any idea

1: where to get one in Australia , Repco has one but its $253  or

2: is there any variants that I can use, Triton seems the same but cant find spec details to compare.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

4G64 possibly 4G63 motor parts in Brissy

11 November 2013 - 10:41 AM

Hi all,

I am looking for anywhere is Brissy that I can get some secondhand 4G63/64 motor parts.

In particular the Crankshaft Timing belt sprocket and a Viscous fan as well.

Will be after other parts as well eventually but just after a good place/wrecker/supplier around Qld or interstate if post available.

Also wanted to find out is there anywhere or anyone that stocks the balance shaft eliminator kits in Brissy. After one for the 4G64 I have.

Any help appreciated

4G64 Sohc 16 Valve timing belt tensioner

13 October 2013 - 01:19 AM

Hi all, after some info with more experience with the above motor.

After all checks and oil flush it seems the culprit of a buzzin type vibration noise from the motor is possibly the Timing belt tensioner. I researched the web and seems when it goes bad it does get noisy etc.

The motor idles fine, compression checked and is fine all round.

oil pressure is fine all round and the noise seems to from the front of the motor.

The noise is like a buzzin/vibration type noise that starts from approx 1500rpm up.

Any info in regards to what happens when a timing belt tensioner starts to fail or has failed would be great.

Mitsubishi Starwagon 1996 4g64 Engine advice

25 September 2013 - 08:41 AM

Hi, I am new and looking for some advice from those who know the 4G64 motors.
I recently bought a Starwagon 08/96 van with 4G64 motor and auto trans. Its in pretty good condition except the mortor has an apparent issue.
The issue is that was explained and also have a invoice/report from the mechanic explaining the issue and the corrective action they took..
It is that the balance shaft belt had shifted due to being loose, it had been retensioned and the motor works fine, starts drives and everything works(only limited short tests no extended drives as yet)
My plan is to replace all the belts give it a good service and I imagine as the belt had not broken and had not taken out the timing belt which I assume if it had the motor wouldnt run at all, a good check over and service should suffice. As the motor had only had a full rebuild about 3 years ago and done less than 40 thou.
The only issue I have noticed is the idle is high but none of the ancillary belts are on atmo and it may just need the throttle adjusted and cleaned etc.
Can anyone explain the balance shaft issue and if it is a good idea or practical idea to remove and install a balance shaft eliminator which seems a common mod.
Honestly the van is a family van not a speedster but will be made to look and sound good, wheels, paint interior etc.
If I am correct with the above it has made a very nice and cheap buy and will be well loved and used.
Thank you in advance for any advice given.
