WTB: CB Lancer Gsr lowered springs......

03 March 2015 - 07:17 AM

Hi guys,
My front springs are sagged and so I need to replace them with new ones.
They are too low now, so it's not legal in VIC.
I have temporarily replaced them with stock springs but would like to buy some replacement springs.
Anyone got any springs lying around the garage you would like to sell to me ?
I'm after good springs, namely kings or better that only drop the car 30mm . The next standard lowering amount of around 40mm is too low and the cross member sits just under 100mm off the ground.
I'm in melboune so call me if you have anything like what I'm looking for. I'd love coil overs but they're outs idly price range at the moment.
I'd take only fronts if that's all you have but if you have all 4 that's even better.

Lowered springs and amount of lowering....

14 February 2015 - 04:04 AM

Hi guys,

I hace a CB Lancer GSR, with a standard 1.6l engine (non turbo), with standard 14inch alloys.

I bought a set of used springs and KYB Excel G's off a forum member.

The springs are Lovells sports lows, so they are supposed to lower the car about 25 to 40mm. I installed them and it has lowered the car around 41 or 42mm depending on which corner I measure......neither here or there.

The thing is, the cross member is now just under the magic 100mm off the ground y a few mm's, so technically, it's doesn't comply with Vicroads.

Has anyone had this problem before? The springs and shocks are second hand, so have they sagged? I just don't get it......It's not that low, yet the cross-member is too low....it's doing my head in!

Is there a spacer or shim I can insert between the spring and strut to give me a little more clearance from the ground (I'm after around 15 or 20mm) or just buy new springs or put the old springs back in?

I suppose this is where coilovers come into their own!

Any advice will do. Anyone else had this issue?

Cheers

Rob

Cam belt change interval....

14 February 2015 - 03:55 AM

I have a standard 4G61 1.6l twin cam engine, and chnaged the cam belt around 5 years ago.

In that time, I have chnaged jobs and catch public transport into the CBD, and only travelled around 50,000 kms.

Should the cam belt be chnaged every 100,000km or over a certain time?

In other words, should I chnage my cam belt now?

Also, is the cam belt an easy change over, or should I pay a mechanics to do it?

Any mechnaice you can recommend in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne?

Cheers

Taking top nut off front strut in CB GSR (and replacement strut top cap)

23 January 2015 - 06:24 AM

Hi guys,

I’ve got a CB GSR and I’m replacing the springs on the KYB Excel-G shocks on the front of the car.

The only thing is that I just can’t get the top nut undone!

I only have hand tools, and no rattle gun.

I read somewhere that I should loosen the top nut while the strut is still in the car.

I also read somewhere that spinning the centre shaft while undoing the nut on top of the strut will damage the valving in the shock.

The top of the shaft doesn’t seem to have a hex key slot  or flattened end to allow you to hold the shaft while undoing the nut.

I could borrow an cordless impact driver from a friend of a friend, but I’d prefer to not borrow if I can do it another way.

I’m after some good practical advice on undoing this nut without killing myself!

Anyone done one of these before?

Also, are strut top caps still available?  Bursons tell me I have to buy them from Mitsubishi.

Has anyone been able to source aftermarket one? Any idea of cost?

Any advice is welcome.

Cheers

Rob
