In Topic: difference between evo 7 to 9s?

09 October 2014 - 05:54 PM

Sorry for the revive guys, but I think this bit will be a useful reference. :)

EVO 7 and 8s are completely different, headlights, guards, rear lights, front bars, side skirts, rear bar are all different

See if i can find some pics

Nope. Exterior wise only difference is bumpers, wings, and bonnet (8 and 9 same bonnet). Headlights, and taillights are basically the same except for updates in colors. Side skirts are also the same.

EVO 8

You can clearly see the difference in the look at the front, only difference with the 9 is the little holes in the bottom of the front bar and the black bit on the bottom of the rear bar. The reason why a lot of evo 8's get evo 9 front and rear bar because cosmeticly they will look the same other then the MIVEC of the evo 9 etc...

This will work on ALL CT9A Evos. Evo 7 and 8 have the same rear bumper, while the 8 and 9 have the same hood.

Theres really 2 types of EVOs, GSR and RS

GSR is mainly the model that is built for luxery, the RS is built more track ready

Tail lights are interchangable, if u wanna use EVO8 headlights on a 7 you will need EVO8 guards and maybe bonnet and front bar

You can pick up a 7 for around 15k now, and a 9 is roughly still around 30k+

I would really not say the GSR is meant for luxury, maybe the MR is, but the real luxury Evo is the Evo 7.5 GT-A or what the Japanese called the "gentleman's express". First its a semi-auto tiptronic (inspiration for the Evo X MR), has a more comfy suspension, tons of sound deadening for a quieter car, wheels has special luster coating unlike GSR, comfy seats, other interior refinements, etc. Although its auto it was said to be faster off the line vs the GSR from the factory according to some Japanese car magazines.

So basically the CT9A Evo's exterior has minor difference and can be interchanged. Some like the 7 front because of their square masculine looks and their extra vents. And others the 9 because of its extra curves and the elimination of the NACA w/c if opened by most owners allows more water getting the engine bay. The 8 front is quite unpopular especially in Japan because of the pyramid grill, not just because it looks like every other mitsu car out there w/ their triangle grill, it also blocks additional air going to the engine. That's why in the 9 they opened it again like the 7.

CT9A transmission comes in 5 or 6 speed (5 was said to be stronger though). And on the engine, only major difference is the Mivec inclusion from the 9. A CT9A owner here BTW.
