Evo 1 Front LSD into my Galant VR4 Transmission (TRE Stage 2)

So you can use this front diff in an auto 2G (DSM) transmission? I learn something new everyday on this site. Thanks for all the help. Figured I could just give it a whirl. If it breaks, I have a backup transmission anyways. I will post back in a few weeks when I take it apart. Thanks, Alan

Evo 1 Front LSD into my Galant VR4 Transmission (TRE Stage 2)

No, because he has a built IPT transmission and he uses it only for drag racing. I am pretty sure you can't use that differential in the auto regardless.

Evo 1 Front LSD into my Galant VR4 Transmission (TRE Stage 2)

LOL you had a welded center diff? That causes a WHOLE ton of stress on the transmission especially the front diff. My friend had this differential in his 700hp Evo 1 and for a month and never had a problem. Got rid of it since he went auto. I am going to give it a whirl. I am also pretty sure...

Evo 1 Front LSD into my Galant VR4 Transmission (TRE Stage 2)

Okay I will definitely check. I mean....I guess the question is, what is the point if the VLSDs are that weak and break very easily? I am still not fully grasping HOW that part breaks off when inside of a DSM transmission versus an EVO transmission.

Evo 1 Front LSD into my Galant VR4 Transmission (TRE Stage 2)

Ah so the actual diff breaks where the axle goes into (and holds thats bearing)? I wonder if that could be reinforced. I sent an email to meek performance to see what they know.

Evo 1 Front LSD into my Galant VR4 Transmission (TRE Stage 2)

So this is inside of a Galant VR4 w5m33? I just found out my transmission is more than likely a DSM 1G w5m33 (not sure if that helps). I also don't seem to understand EXACTLY what is breaking. Can you show me in this diagram? Or you can use this link: http://www.vfaq.com/...nnyrebuild.html...

Also, could you show pictures of the "crown bearing shaft/end"? I am not 100% what you are talking about. Thanks, Alan

Evo 1 Front LSD into my Galant VR4 Transmission (TRE Stage 2)

Okay please let me know. I am not too worried about machining cost since I have access to a welding/machine shop for free for the most part.

Evo 1 Front LSD into my Galant VR4 Transmission (TRE Stage 2)

I will check tonight and let you guys know. You broke them that easily? What kind of racing where you doing? I mean I got this for pretty cheap which is the only reason I am using it. Most DSM guys don't seem to have issues with high horsepower and that crown end bearing shaft. You have any...

Evo 1 Front LSD into my Galant VR4 Transmission (TRE Stage 2)

Sweet. Do you know if the input shaft needs to be changed by any chance? I look forward to my new transmission setup: VLSD Evo 2 Front LSD + 4 Spider CD + TeamRip upgrades (stage 2) + Carbonetic Triple Plate Clutch + Rear 4 Bolt VLSD I hope I can surprise some newer Evos and Subies on the track.

Evo 1 Front LSD into my Galant VR4 Transmission (TRE Stage 2)

Thank you SOOO much. I honestly was taking a long shot and expected no one to really respond to me. The seller is already shipping me up the axle cup and input shaft (he said I need a 2G one but he has one so he is shipping it up to me). Now the question is, you say "driver side cup" but since...

Evo 1 Front LSD into my Galant VR4 Transmission (TRE Stage 2)

So I just bought a Evo 1 FRONT LSD (told it was mechanical LSD but looks like a viscous LSD to me) and I am wondering what exactly do I need to get it to work in my Galant VR4 Transmission (TRE Stage 2). Here are some pictures: From what initial research, I believe I need the passenger...
