If you want to watch some great old school racing at Mount Panorama I highly reccomend you buy the DVD or the Box set of The Great Race.

I thought I'd show you what I beleive is the very first drift shown on Australian Television.

In my opinion, these cars are ALOT more entertaining to watch than the current V8 supercar series and are possibly the best years in australian motorsport.

mmmmm back in the day when bathurst was good!

i used to love watching the touring cars... beemers, volvos, sierras, etc.
now every car is the same, it just comes down to driver skill... boring!

I bought mine from the Museum at Mt Panorama but you can find anything on Ebay.

Although it was 1981 that saw the introduction of the turbo entry into The Great Race with the Nissan Bluebird, it was not until 1988 that a turbo-charged machine came to the flag in the No. 1 position.

From this point on, The Great Race was dominated by turbos, in particular the Sierra RS 500's and in the latter years by the sophisticated four wheel drive, twin-turbo GT-R of Nissan.

1992 has seen the last victory for a turbo, as they are no more.

The generation of this complex technology has now passed and with the reintroduction of the V8 car we have seen The Great Race turn a full circle.

This video features highlights from all individual races in one action packed release during The Turbolent Years.

If you do decide to buy it.. get the 1975-85 aswell, you won't be dissapointed, Turn up the surround sound and you'll have 240mins of pure bliss

I have been told from a good source that those Bathurst Starions were the quickest cars down Conrod Straight in those days.
Those Turbo Blubirds were amazing as well. Qualifying in pole position.

Did any of you guys watch Top Gear on SBS last night.

They had to buy a cheap sports coupe and went through some tests. Jeremy bought a Starion to thrash the sh!t out of. He put on a larger turbo from a rally car and some rally wheels to go paddock bashing. I loved the look on his face when he switched the dual stage boost controller.

They were the great years for sure. We ran the GroupE Starion in the GroupA support races at Amaroo Park.
