I've done a tonne of reading on the 3000gt/gto brake upgrade. I've found some really good forum posts and project write ups aswell. I thought i might aswell post them up here for everyone to benifit from my weeks worth of night shifts internet crawling.

From all of what i have read, in very breif summery, the main thing with this upgrade is wheel choice. It is not only the offset and size rim you are using, it has a lot to do with spoke design as to whether you be able to fit these brakes. You will definately need 17" rims to clear the calipers. Offset and wheel width are then determined by spoke profile design and thickness of the spoke.

Here's a good read: http://www.galantvr4.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Number=305495&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&fpart=1&vc=1

And here: http://www.vfaq.com/mods/BigBrakesInfo.html

Here's some more gold reading. Massive but goes into every possible variation of rotor size and wheel size choice: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/handling-tech/184965-bargain-basement-big-brakes.html

And some more reading: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...350-guide-13-1-4-piston-brakes-1gs-cheap.html

And a little more: http://msport.co.nz/viewtopic.php?t=7478

enjoy!!!

Why not just get custom rotor hats (for 2 piece rotors) made up to mount the calipers further inboard, would help solve the rim choice problem. How far can you go before you hit the hub or steering components?

The rotor fouls on the suspension parts, which you need to grind away to fit bigger rotors on even without rotors that bring them further inward

Has anybody on this forum gone to the full extent of actually fitting 3000GT calipers? I have just purchased a set but the information about such a conversion is really scant. I have a set of 5 spoke RSGT's with a + 42 offset...would the calipers clash with the rims or is it just a case of trial and error?

Brad I put together a kit but never got around to fitting it yet. I did a few measurements and with my wheels (no idea of the offset on the Buddy Clubs) it should need 3-5mm spacers unfortunately

I'm waiting on a pair of calpiers at the moment and i already have the brackets made up. I've got 2 different sets of wheels that i am going to try. The rs gt's might fit the caliper behind them due to their spoke design.

I'll let you know how i go.

Do you still have the sparco rims Damo? I cant seem to find an offset stamp on my 17" set but the spoke design allows the to easily clear my porsche calipers.
The buddy clubs you have Dan are +35 offset, I have a set the same and unfortunately had to run spacers and still have minimal clearance.

The RSGT's were designed to cater for Brembo brakes, so I am relatively confident that the spokes will clear the 3000GT's....

Would you happen to have a template of the brackets? If so, is it possible to scan them and post them up? Are you searching for the early or later model calipers? I have heard that the later model calipers may need a different size bracket for the larger rotors...?

just to add another rotor option to the mix...

the mitsubishi 380 runs the same 294mm rotor as he evo 4
but it is a much healthier 28mm think instead of 24mm and with
all the other measurements the same.

and cheap new too but no blanks that i can find as yet

One of my mates that last time I talked was selling his went through with it and needed to run 15mm spacers and ran ARP long wheel studs and then take your poick of wheels....well almost be it very illegal but so is speeding and we all do it but not always get caught

I am just going through this installation at the moment and if you didn't already know, it's a head-fuck. We have been trying so many rotor and spacer combinations, it's ridiculous! I might even have to shave the Mitsubishi logo from the caliper just to squeeze them on there - should have a result this week nonetheless...:)

i gave up on the nissan ones in the end(very similar to the 3000gt)
as above too much spacer needed.i even tried shaving the nissan off and i was still way off
