4G63 DOHC Lumpy Cam

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

heaps! most half decent companies will do billet cams for the 4g63. Anything from near stock right up to big arse cams for pure race engines.

I've got a set of BC 272's that I'm looking to get rid of actually haha :p

Yeah, cos I'm looking at something, not merely for the performance (Which I want to land between 3500-7000), but also to see if I can get the '63 to have a nice bit of a thump in her. Running 5.5" Truck Exhausts will help me with the note a little I think, as the 4G15 had a bit of a thump with a stock cam

yeah, BC's aren't overly aggresive compared to others.
here's an example of how they can idle.

Personally I like kelford, camtech and wade. Buying a set of camtech's very soon for the 93 hopefully lol. There are also heaps of options from the states, especially with the aussie dollar at the moment!

my old 272's with 11mm lift and stupidly long duration... i think Gianni's got them now..

GSC cams are nice and decent price.... S2 and S3's

If allyou want is a lumpy sounding idle then just tune it in, you will be able to make it idle rough enough. Just retard your spark till it barely running...
Does your ecu support rotational idle? Where it shuts off each injector so it idles on 3 cylinders? That sounds good...

Yeah, I could cut spark or retard timing, not sure however if that will make it a semi-permanant thing (So that when my TPS goes above 0%, my Revs get above say, 1250 (idle), or when my speed is >0km/h) it will restore normal tune. Plus also, it won't have that throaty grab when I plant the boot if it shuts of, it will just thump at Idle. I'd guess, with my understanding of the system, that it wouldn't be hard to tune that into a VVT/VTec/MIVEC/VVT-i engine, as Variable Valve timing would allow for that sort of adjustment (As my understanding of it goes at least).

Cos the last thing I want to be doing is cruising around in a retarded car that will put my economy up the poo chute.

I thought you would want the big truck turbo whistle from the stacks, you could squeeze maybe 5psi into it without breaking pistons...

I've never really heard large truck stacks from whistling, the effect according to a few heavy diesel mechanics, is that it occurs when the exhaust is too restrictive, hence why some large turbo'ed vehcles (Mack Titan for example) run such large exhaust systems.

You can get a car to do it if your exhaust is free flowing enough!
After i swapped the turbo on my GSR, I had to take it to the exhaust shop to get the down pipe mated up to the dump. So I drove it down there (5min drive) with it coming straight off the dump pipe.
Did not boost it at all, and it whistled its arse off on lift off!

If you listen to that vid i posted, you can actually hear it whining slightly.

If 7000rpm is your limit, you wouldnt want to go more than a 272 duration.
What turbo will it be running?
