Hey someone i know is looking into putting a 63 into a gemini after the results i have had with my car etc.. Just wanting to have a discussion with people who are technically minded about what is going to happen and what series motors can go into etc.

Heres a list of what i narrowed down that could possibly work:

- 4G63 VR4 Motor (all wheel drive DOHC)
- 4G63 Evo Motor (all wheel drive DOHC)
- 4G63 Starion Motor (rear wheel drive SOHC)
- 4G63 Express motor (rear wheel drive SOHC)

my question would be.. if i decided to use an AWD style 4G63 motor.. how hard is it to mount in? Ie.. camside engine mount.. Would it be easier to stick to a RWD setup and put a DOHC head on it?

Also in regards to gearbox setup.. which would be the best and what are peoples opinions on what would work and not? Im thinking inline of maybe using an express van gearbox with matching dif.. which will be shortened etc..

Im all up in the place so just wanting peoples opinions on what they think would work well..

Many thanks.

Jon

I'd use the starion box and make changes to the transmission tunnel to make it fit. Starion boxes are indestructible compared to other mitsu boxes and you can get 4.6 rear diff ratios if you really wanna go that high.

What about a mitsi ute gearbox??

Yer the utes would work.. also so will most commercial mitsubishi vehicles.. at the moment im trying to figure out how long the factory gearbox is etc.. and the fittings then working from there.. but hopefully will go ahead run a big 16g and make around 200rwkw in an 900kg car :)

i think i might jump on the sigma forums as ive heard/known of guys who put VR4 motors into sigma's.. so obviously it can be done..

I have seen it done in an import GSR 1800 lancer, the intake manifold has to be modified to have the throttle body on the other side.

or use a evo 4-9 intake and exhaust manifold?

Can't.

There is however a bloke I know who's producing exact replica's of the manifold but in reverse for RWD applications. Also makes them preflanged to suit either vr4, xf or magna tb's.

Yes you can mount the 4G63 in a RWD Gemini, LA/LB Lancer, Sigma/Scorpion etc. The mitsus are easier as you can use the japspec 5 speed boxes which bolt up to the 4G63 block (mitsu only had 2 bellhousing designs) and fit the mitsu transmission tunnels. You need to relocate the CAS from the back to the front of the motor as it can foul on the firewall, and swap the throttle body to the opposite side of the inlet manifold. I've got a couple of old articles on how to install a VR4 engine into a Scorpion if you want and a mate who put a VR4 engine into a Sigma did a complete write-up for me a couple of years ago which I have in a word document. I'll PM you when I get home from work J but you've gotta promise me it aint gonna go into a Gemini!!! bahahhaha

u guys ever hear of the BIMUBISHI???
4g63 beemer, he scrapped it due to the weak gearbox options and went for an SR20...

looked sweet though

yeah thats what i was thinking when i was reading the posts above

i'm sure he'd be more than willing to help jon

now known as bismo

i know this is for a gemini,

but i was wondering if a 4g63 dohc could fit in a suzi mighty boy...? im having a brain fart coz a mate might be buyng a mighty boy.

just use a w58 supra box thats what i used in my vr4 sigma , got sick of smashing jap spec sigma boxes all the time even though i was getting them fo free , was spend to much time under the car LOL

We can supply you with a bellhousing , adaptor plate and custom clutch pressure plate combo to fit ( even in a exedy brass 4 puck version)

starion boxes dont bolt up to vr4 engines bro

starion uses a wide block

vr4 & evo 4g63's are a narrow block

maybe you can get your hands on a jap spec starion dash wide block engine and gearbox package jon

but they are hard to find these days seen one @ EKW a few years ago

funny you mentioned that because i have a jspec starion block in my garage.. but looks like this project isnt going to go ahead.. unsure.. but ive had the block for around 2years i recall!

You could do what i did and use the starion block with vr4 head and then you can use the starion gearbox. Please note this is not the easiest conversion.Take a look at my car on austarion.com and also do a search on twin cam conversions and you will have all the info you need. :D

That's what I was about to say.

You can bolt a starion box to a starion block and mount a vr4 head onto it with a little effort and you fix both issues :)
