Hey Jon,

I've seen a few of your posts on NZMMC...

How are you going with the L300 Van conversion? I've been riding a fair bit lately and I need something to transport my bikes. 8)

Any ideas on how much the conversion costs (around about), and how hard it really is?

Cheers man,
Jase

ahh ok

have you got any good links for me? point me in the right direction?

you need to use a starion gearbox, right?

it's just an option at the moment, but it sure would be fun :D

hehe he.. i know that changing gearboxs in the L300 is really quite easy
    hey jon?

Run the starion 2 litre engine.. then run a 2.4 litre Express gearbox.. may need to convert it to hydraulic.. other then that its a simple straight foward swap.

Rus: fucken oath they are easy to do.. but doing it at 10pm at night in canberra is cold!

can you use a vr4 engine?

where are the engines in these vans? under the "bonnet"? or under a seat or something wacky like that?

interesting

does that make it harder or easier?

could you ever get these things to handle as well? torsion bars and leaf springs :?

can you crank the camber up front and stiffen the suspension up a bit?

i havent really looked closely.
but the width of the head might be an issue
most of the fitting work would have to be from underneath
jon might be able to shed some more light on this
i read an article somewhere.. someone had done it (being either vr4 or cordia engine)to an early l300, one of the full chassis ones

as far as making it handle.. good luck!!
torsion bar set up front end, tall and top heavy van... = hand fulls of fun

i dont mean handle wicked.. but just a bit better you know?

i guess it will be tricky to make that sort of thing happen

VR4 engines have been done heaps in vans in NZ.

You wont be getting ANY traction though.

Handling? sheesh, its a van!!

ok, people, please read this:

i know handling is going to be shit compared to my vr4, but i was just wondering how hard it would be to make it a bit better

hell, the jms van did a lot of drifting in it's time!

just had a chat to a mate that used to work for mitsubishi, and he seems to think that i could bolt on a vr4 manifold to a 2.4L 4G64 (obviously much easier than doing the full swap).

is this true?

this page says it's so.. well 4g64 to 4g64T.. just not sure about the space issues in the L300

Ring up bursons/repco or whatever and get them go get you a part number for an exhaust gasket from a 4G64 or (4C64 i think - which is the hyundai code) and see if they can match up the same part for the 4G63.. if the part numbers match then your on a winner.
