Hi. I'm new on this forum and i'd like to know if i can use the pistons for a normally aspirated 4G63 into a 4G63 turbo? I know that the compression ratio will be higher so i'll definitely have to go much less on boost. I was told that my first gen motor has 7.8:1 compression ratio and that a normally aspirated 4G63 has 9.0:1. Reason for the change is the unavailability of oversized turbo pistons over here in my country, Philippines. Thanks in advance for the advices.

Can you import from Malaysia or the USA? Oversized forged pistons for the 63t are not overly expensive.

Hi Missile. Thanks for the quick reply. The pistons itself may not be overly expensive but shipping costs and taxes over here will make it expensive. I don't intend to run an insane amount of boost so i was thinking on putting on NA pistons. Wouldn't i have less turbo lag by running a bit of a higher compression?

hey Kamusta Pare?

yes there is less lag in regards to running high comp... but some tuning is required.... and high rated octane fuel...

you could just put the N/A block into the car untill you can fully rebuild the Turbo block....

Hi pare. Ok naman. Kamusta ka rin? The problem in doing that is that i don't have an n/a block.

yer ok naman, would much prefer the weather over in the phils atm....

um.. the pistons should fit in the VR4 block.. 85 mm bore x 88 mm stroke SOHC and DOHC..

i'm sure there are available place's in the phils for parts... i'll have to ask the cousins if they remember any places..

where abouts are you in pinas?

Metro Manila bro. How much are turbo pistons over there?

In the old school days when turbo pistons were too expensive here,we used to get a 1.5mm copper head gasket made and put it on the block side then normal head gasket between that and the head.i ran that setup on a na 4g63 sohc with a starion turbo bolted on for a couple of years in the late 80s.see back then it was $150 for a copper gasket or $500 for pistons.but now its probably the other way around.

that would be about right.. although most stock VR4 pistons over hear... cop one hell of a beating before getting changed for forged pistons..

it is actually easier at times in Aust to find after market pistons rather then stock...

Liberoz has a set of early evo pistons for sale. Have ask him about the condition.
