4G63T Eclipse engine on a Galant VR4 engine bay?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone knows, if the 1G Eclipse AWD 4G63T engine a straight bolt on to the E39A/E38A VR4 engine bay? also if the Eclipse front Driveshafts are identical to the VR4 driveshafts and if the Eclipse front driveshafts can be bolted to the VR4 Box? and if theres any other similarities in parts it will be good to know. cheers

dont know about the driveshafts though i would assume at least the intermediate shaft would work.

hhhhmmm interesting, i remember seeing a Eclipse/talon Manual somewhere, but i cant find it no more, i wanna know if both front LH/RH driveshaft have the same length and splines as the VR4s.

they should be the same, people in the US use the eclipse hubs to do 5 stud conversions on the vr4
so they should fit

the length should be the same, the 1g and vr4 can use the same swaybars, strut braces and things like that... so it makes sense that they would be the same length and spline count

1g eclipse is a 4 stud .. It may be the 2g that is five..

The eclipse 1g has almost the identical brakes as the Sonata. Used a pad that was about 1mm bigger, and was 4x114.3. When I did the Sonata conversion I was going to put them on, but there was no real difference so I did not worry.

Can't answer the gearbox question, as the Eclipse I had was the GTS-t which was a FWD ... Meek have the gearbox if you want to ask them any questions..

Engine is just your basic VR4. Only there are some slight differences internally... It is more like the evo engine.. The crank is smaller then the VR4, and I had to use an Evo VI or VII in it.. Can't remember which one it was.. I still have the clutch and flywheel sitting in my garage ...

well if the engine and gearbox and driveshafts are a bolt on to the VR4 engine bay , i might consider in purchasing the Eclipse halfcut thats on ebay, but the bad thing is that the guy wrote "pick up only, no postage" i wonder how much will it be for transport from Brisbane to Sydney, anyone has any ideas? or does anyone from brisbane know the guy who is selling the halfcut?

don't know him sorry, but is probably local, don't the eclipse's have 7 bolt crank and have problems with crankwalk

not too sure about that, but i thought it was a 6 bolt since he mentions (VR4) i was assuming it will be the 1G by the look of the big round air filter instead of the 2G -7 bolt having a AFM like the EVOs. Correct me if i'm wrong.

You see i bought a JDM VR4 Galant in mint condition at a very cheap price, but the bad thing is that it doesnt have an engine and a few bits and peices are missing aswell around the engine bay, so thats the reason i'm looking in purchasing the eclipse halfcut so i can get the VR4 back to its potential glory , The old owner used the engine for another car.
