4G93T ECU - 98 Octane fuel

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

my cc gsr ecu is stock, and running on 98 should i just go to 95octane? im on 14.5psi boost, big ic, plug gaps NGK-IX 0.76mm, timing 10deg. Any pinging issues?

GSR's are tuned to run on 95 octane with a knock sensor to use 92 in an emergency... retuning the engine to suit 98 only would give more power I imagine..

so going by this theory the knock sensor will recalibrate the timing and 98 RON can be used without a chip to increase power...

Dont know if the standard GSR ecu can "learn" how to recalibrate to 98 octane fuel. The knock sensor only gets used when u need to fill up with 92 octane (when u need fuel and 92 is the only fuel available). Its part of the reason Jap spec GSR's have something like 15 more hp stock out of the factory. Maybe a Jap spec 1800RS ECU would be a good upgrade?

the three highlighted bits dont go together well.
id be carefull.dont even think of 95 octane for this kind of setup

i ran this setup with the standard vr4 pump (100l/hr) and 510's and my plugs were looking a bit white..too white.

go back to 5 Deg BTDC..you wont even notice the difference..itll save your motor though.

Jap63 If i go back to 5deg it's like doing an engine swap from a 1.8L to a 1.0L. Ignition timing response is lost, torque has dissapeared. But more economical leaner burn, less prone to detonation & pinging.

Should i try for 96 octane premium & timing 5deg and since the stock ecu only has been programmed for fuel-ign maps to run for 92-95octane?

Soon be getting safc-sitc...

surely it couldnt be that noticeable..

didnt even notice it in my car.....

as i said...
those three things breed detonation...dont find out the hard way..

I drive'n'shift in low revs maybe thats where torque effect is reduced. Its like trading bottom for top end slightly, with timing.

btw does anybody know of any 96 octane pump? im gonna give my car 96 octane juice? mobil & shell dont have premium 96. Anyone?

wtf 96 octane? petrol comes in
91 - standard regular unleaded,
95 - standard premium unleaded ,
98 - premium unleaded, every servo has a different name for it!
100 - Shell ethonol enriched premium unleaded

If you want 96 octane maybe you could get some nerd to calculate how many litres 98 and 91 you would need to mix to get an overall octane of 96??

hehe goog feedback. well it must've been 4 years or so since i checked at the pumps. Im sure Mobil, BP, had the 96 premium pump at hand. Ive also checked out some websites some do mention 96 and some 95 octane availability...
