Hmmm, i'd have to look at mine to tell.
Have you tried googling the part number on it?

i just went & removed it from the car

the nubers on it are

MB606759
751-0777

didn't find anything Googling it

God point..any 1 know if its the abs or 4ws?

ITS ABS

4WS is PURELY mechanical

How do you know its the AWS making it handle shit ?
Have you driven a VR4 with out it ?
I have AWS, and it handle like a dream, power oversteer WHEN i want it :D

I give up on this thread. My last vr4 would blitz most of the current ones on the road except for troys in the handling stakes (on tarmac) and it still had the 4ws onboard.

Remove it if you want. whatever.

Your saying the steering wheel in the car is linked to the rear of the car?
Through the power steering lines only?

If it comes on at 52 Kph..somethings controlling it.

Ok so ive blamed the 4WS...
When slight steering angle is being held through a corner and you hit a bump the car feels like it sways like a banana bus...try and arrest it with the brakes and it feels worse..its shithouse..feels dangerous and gives me the shits..i dont see how a bad wheel alignment could steer the car in that sort of way..maybe im wrong..but its only recently started and the wheel alignment has remained the same throughout...the other thing is..why is it most present when the cars cold...to me its hydraulic..i thought if i locked it out it'd at least be a good start to seeing if thats what it is..and my shocks are new too...so its not that.

Im not starting a war on 4WS for al you diehard beleivers.

Just asking some Q's

For the people in the know..im running about -3 Camber in the rear with around 6mm of toe in..yeah its alot but i have too

Id say thats part of your problem.
i don't have the whiteline specs at my fingers (Barry might) But its recommended to run NO more then -1.5 (i run -1.25) and toe only a mm or 2 (cant remember what i run - its written in the VR4) from memory

Not many people know how to set a VR4 up for handling, i spent many hours, tweaking this and tweaking that, before i got something i was sort of happy with, still have a lil to much oversteer for my liking, but ill sort that later.

Around the HiddenValley track (Darwin) i was out handling a lotus eliese (he couldn't keep me in the corners :p

.END rant

i'm keen to get mine handling better & wondering what some of the more experienced owners have done

Heaps. The biggest change in the entire car was going through the underside and replacing each and every single bushing under the car regardless of condition. Obliterated at least 80% of the unwanted movement in the car.

Replace everything to start with, Noltec bushes all around, start with the witeline alignment specs, from there, its a matter of personal driving style.
I have mine setup for power oversteer, as thats how i prefer to drive (I don't have any understeer)

Mine was set to understeer at the limit as I come from a FWD background. Oversteer flat out scares the shit out of me.

If you lockup your car... tower-tower braces, sway bar upgrades and a decent set of shocks, you don't even have to lower the car to get it to absolutely SCREAM around corners.

I had -every- single bush under the car replaced with polyurethane... noltec, superpro etc. whichever brand you need. You can't get a complete set using only one brand. Poly bushes only last 1-2 years TOPS but they are absolutely essential to get your car to steer straight and STAY straight.

sway bar upgrades and a decent set of shocks,

what do you guys recommend

i want to car to handle neutral to very little oversteer

I cant really get away from the neg 3 degrees camber..its the ride height that does it...its a street car...so i dont mind it...im not all for handling..its not on the track and for now handling doesnt bother me..but what does bother me is the uneasy rear end at times....that,i do want to get rid of...and im not a wheel alignment specialist..but i doubt its the toe upsetting the rear end...it never used to do it...and its worse when the cars cold...hence me blaming hydraulics.

your -3 camber will have a lot to do with it. That's almost driftspec. You're only sitting on about 70% of the actual tyre.

Try RAISING your car half an inch.

Power steering fluid doesn't really heat up per se. It works just as well stone cold as it does at operating temperature. Check the fluid weights of the oil.

Checked your tyre pressures recently?

with -3 camber your rear tyres are probably totally scrubbed out on the inside edge and may be useless in terms of grip.

yeah well its 2.8 degrees..i can live with it...i cant avoid it at the moment.

I bought the best shit at the store so i dont know how weights would effect it..i bought the reccomended oil for the car.and im sure it would heat up..all hydraulic systems would run at a heated temp of some sort as opposed to running stone cold..which would effect the oil weight.

Yes.

Theyre new..but yeah the inside wears out...20K isnt bad though.but thats not really my concern here...

Thats my gripe

And it does it in a straight line too...
So id says its steering related

You need to listen to what people are telling you. It comes down to the fact that your cars too low so your wheel alignment is causing the problems that your experiencing. Your rubber band tyres don't help the situation.

Good for a fully sik drifter but not for an AWD sedan.

Mitsubishi engineers aren't that stupid. We wouldn't have 4WS if it was that dangerous.

DO YOU WANT IT TO LOOK RICE, OR HANDLE ?
A VR4 CANNOT DO BOTH, this is by design, TO LOW and the driveshafts are completely in the wrong direction, and screws up the handling BIG time.

But it looks FULLY SIK MAN.

Dude, sell your vr4 and go buy a VLT.

Your vr4 actually looks stupid with the rims jammed that far up in the guards.

I'd love to see it with 4 people in it... i'm not entirely sure that EVER happens though (for whatever reason............ ;) )
