hey guys im really quite close to buying a rvr 4g63 to do this conversion. Does anyone know if this is a simple as the vr4 or evo. Im pretty sure there cant be to many differences but if noone has done it then i might do a run through when i do it

what car is this going into? cc?

there are afew differences b/w an RVR and evo1-3 engines that you should consider before doing a conversion:

It is technically an EVO I-III engine block, but it is not an EVO III engine as it has a few bolt on parts that make it RVR specific. It has a smaller turbo, most probably out of an auto transmission and you have to bear the extra costs of a manual flywheel, it would have a different oil filter setup on it, different crank angle setup, different water pipe, different camshafts, has a water supply from the side of the block that needs to be blocked off and some different wiring in the loom, and I think different front engine mount as well?. There's probably a bit more but thats all I can think of at the moment at the top of my head. Getting the extra stuff and the bit more fiddling around ends in a few hundred more $$, time and hassle spent by yourself in making it suitable for your project. To an experience person who knows what parts and changes are required (and has parts laying around) its not that big a deal, but to someone who is new to it and was lead to believe its ready to bolt straight in it can cause a few headaches. This is why we recommend people get a frontcut or get all the parts first instead of getting just an engine or bits and pieces and end up making it difficult for themselves in the long run.

if its out of a hypersportsgear RVR then the turbo is actually bigger than an EVO 3 one I thought? and ideal for the conversion as the outlet faces downwards :)

thanks for the info sound like a bit of a pain ill just keep looking for a vr4 evo one then Its a bit hard i think ive tried every wreckers in syd>.<

Depends what RVR its out of. They are definitely cheaper than EVO motors, even tho they are pretty much the same thing, and usually from auto's, which have had an easier life

i wont buy from sss, i brought a 1jz from for my last car that apparently had been tested and has only 70,000k's and the thing blew that much smoke and i pulled it apart and the thing was fucked.

Theres nothing bigger out there for 1-3 generation mitsi than the standard Evo III Turbo, the 1470 Range 16G's...

Thats unfortunate, did u view the motor running beforhand? Imports, in general are just a f*ckaround...2nd hand motors are a 'pot luck' thing.

I seen a '63 at a wreckers a while a go blowing foam and shit everywhere, caramel oil and coolant, it was a fked headgasket, he was still trying to sell it too........:fuuuuu:

The 1997 manual HSG-R's Big16g is actually rated higher than EVO 3 turbos- I think its the compressor side IIRC

Buy it with the intent of rebuilding it not just throwing it in there trying to save money as it wll bite your ass down the track.

Basically you will need the evo passanger engine mount and block mount apart from having a smaller turbo all 3 rvr motors Ive split have been mint inside and havent had a hard life so Ive got the opisite opinion on this than most.

Just do the basics belts harmonic balancer water pump and get compression check befoe you buy it and while your present.

I own a Hyper Gear RVR Auto and my advice would be to buy that engine. Very good engines especially if it's out of Auto with one only downside: you get small td04 turbo and 450cc injectors instead of Big RVR 16'G. and 510cc

well guys i work for a japan importer, last year we sold just over 200 engines, we had warrenty issues with 3 of them, 2 of them were rotories, which should explian most of it. a good supplier will check the engines well before they are even sold.

the hyper sport gear turbos are rated to flow more than the evo 3 16g turbo, they are also know as the td05h-16g6-7, they are sweet turbos too, spool quick and make good power also.

Just Jap, Sydney. I have bought 2 front cuts from there, both were pretty mint, jst give them a good once over as you would buying a car.

Pretty confident they'll have atleast VR4 front cuts as there were plenty when i was there last. Even a few Evo 0s.

ive ended up buying a vr4 conversion kit from advanced jap auto imports in melbourne he is shipping it up now for a good price:D this is my first mitsubishi so im not familiar with these at all. but thanks for the input
