sorry for the somewhat stupid question (as I remember this being covered somewhere but cant find it :? ), but what is meant by the term 6 bolt and 7 bolt engine??

cheers,
alex

bolts on the flywheel..
aswell as 6 bolt determines vr4, 7 bolt ev0 1 onwards.
or in other terms 6 bolt good, 7 bolt bad. 8) hehe nah

Hmmm really? well i'll be sure to tell Rob & nic that there 7bolts that make over 700 ponies that they are bad motors.

THe main advantage is the 6 bolt has larger crank gernals but doesn't have oil squirters for the gudgens, where the 7 bolt does.

People will waffle about "crank walk" which technically is thrust bearing failure, but if you start talking to some of the guys in japan where these things are made, most are using 7 bolts

...and don't forget the big 6 bolt rods and larger ports. what is being referred to is "stock" 6 vs 7 bolt so saying a motor produced 700hp with full aftermarket internals is beside the point.

i'll rephrase: 7 bolt good, 6 bolt better  (maybe except pistons)
