if you're going to drive down the street along the gutter i think regardless of what you're running your rims will be stuffed

Apparently not! Saw these on TV the other night - $25 for each rim. I'd rather drive a little more carefully.

Actually EVO85 I was talking about something else, but great find! :) . I was talking about the extra thick bead around certain tyres used as rim protection. The rim sits in a recess and the tyre comes with an extra thick band of ruber around it which protrudes further out than the rim (see pic) :)

That link you posted above though is new :) Not a bad product either.

Tyres with Rim Protection

^^

I knew what you were referring to! :p

A lot of cheap tyres around don't offer rim protection but as an alternative, I agree that those rim skins are certainly a nifty idea. Especially should the girlfriend ever get behind the wheel!

this evos a purpose built drift car imo it looks sick with the spacers and wide rims thinking bout doin it to mine

I "gutter rushed" my rims running it up on a narrow car trailer after being super careful on the streets. :fuuuuu:

argh spewing. i remember watching my mate do it once. nothing i could do to stop him in time:eek:

Re why stretch tires: It improves steering response by reducing flex in the tire carcass. This will also cause the tire to lose grip sooner than the same tire on a narrower rim, however the loss of grip is less sudden and more predictable, making the car easier to drive at the limit (or past it, in the case of drifting).

Feel and predictability are more important than outright grip unless you have a very high level of skill.

Oh, and that evo looks mean!

Car looks mean as tyres look PHAT like thatand the rear spoiler sets it off nicely :) but thats just my opinion
