Hey guys

My compressor recently started making loud bearing noises and leaking the gas out etc. I have a replacement from a sonata, should be no different except the plugs but easy fix. My question is, what does it take to remove a compressor and replace it. Do i have to remove intake manifold? or can i squeese it out the back if i remove the starter motor? or option 2, remove t case, exhast dump, passanger drive axel and drop out the bottom? or third option remove motor -.-

Thanks, Brock

Options 1&2 are the best ones, engine removal for an A/C compressor is a bit nuts.
So it comes down to looking to see if there are any gaskets/seals/boots that need replacing with each option, that way it eliminates future work. Have a look at steering rack boots, cv boots, tie rod ends, ball joints and t/case seals, or if you're taking the IM off check earth points and electrical connections, replace gasket (obviously) and give it a clean/tidy up.

Which ever way you choose grab a few cans of degreaser and go to a car wash and degrease the gunk off it, it's so much better to work on a clean engine bay.

I agree with cleaning the engine bay haha, I'll try the starter motor removal and try that way, then if that doesn't work move on to option 2. Engine is only 10,000kms old so all that is fine, just should of done the compressor when I had the chance.

Its going to be tight no matter what.
and those compressor bolts are always a pita. Not enough room to swing a hammer.
i think intake off is prolly best. Starter is miles away not going to gain you anything.
Its either intake or subframe i think.

If its similar setup to Evo..none of that has to come off...you just have to pull it out from the top. Its a tight fit but it can be done..Its pretty easy on an Evo cant see it being much different on RVR?

also get degassed before you start also check that you ac compressors are indeed the same theres atleast 5 different types that have been used on cc series lancers. so ensure you realy do have the right one. it'll have a model number on the compressor itself
