I'm pretty sure that when you turn corners you turn the wheels....although I might be missing something.
Same thing happened to my girlfriends ET. We heard brakes lock up out the front of her house and her piece of shit had rolled down her driveway and almost slammed a passing car. Hand brakes are always one of those "I'll do it on the wk end" things.
As you said it could have been a lot worse. Was there much damage on the Corolla?
