Well tongiht i managed to get my first defect. Nick and I were driving down to go see Brodie at work and pulled out of our street, come to a speed hump, start to accellerate, change gears BOV goes off and we see a TMU car on the side of the road hidden behind a truck, the next thing we know a cop waves us in

So he walks up and says licence please, and pop the bonnet, so up it goes he looks under and says your not allowed to have this, as they didnt come out with one, I told him that they did come out with one but the old one was leaking so i replaced it with this one. He goes well they arnt allowed to vent into that atmosphere, so he said you'll need to put somthing quite on there.

He proceeded to look around the car asking what size my wheels are, I replyed they are 17" he asked where my tyre plackard was, i told him it was in the front door.

So ive ended up with a Major defect that requires a roadworthy and i have till next tuesday to get it done.

over here we have a car inspection(wof) every 6mnths were we would get pulled up on defects etc,do you guys not have that there?

from what i can gather do you guys just drive around with whatever mods you want untill a cop pulls you over? meaning if you can keep your car stealth looking you may get away with illegal mods?

I kno they keep changing the rules but when I got mine the rules were:
stock rims 14". you can put 20's on if you like but they cannot be more than 1" WIDER than the standard tyre which is 5.5" so as 17" wheels are 7" wide they are 1/2" to wide. So that means its time for a different tyre plackard! I got GFB stealth BOV so atmo and plumb back all in one but that doesnt help you! Good luck with the RWC! Can you pass with motor or do you still need an engineer certificate?

yeah that pretty much sums it up! When buying a car it must have a roadworthy certificate before it can be registered and after that if you can get away with modifications good luck but if caught by cops/RTA/EPA, can work out expencive to get car back on the road

you only got done for bov and rims?.. if i recall you need a minimum of three items to get a major defect..

i don't think you got till next thursday.. it probaly says you can drive your car the way it is until thursday and after that if cops pull you over you will get fined..

last time i got defected they give you a month to clear it, unless they've changed the system..

steve the new rules for wheels sizes are that you cannot exeed the overall rolling dieamiter buy 2inches and the overall rolling width buy 2inches meaning if you have 17s that have a wall hieght of 35 and the stock units are 14s that have a wall hieght of 60 u r fine my 18s are 35s and the stockos are 15x65 and the stockys have a larger rolling diamiter lol

i got done for my bov and height, so they needed to find one more defect in my car to get my a major..ended up having a clutch pedal which had no grip.. :twisted:

I got a major defect a couple of months back and it was for bald tyres. :cry: No more RE55s for my 4 paws.

Oh well..........these tickets paid for those fireworks that we saw on Sunday night 8)

the length of time allowed for u to drive the car before can vary depending on the officer.

if he wants you off the road in an hour he will enforce it if he wants to give you a week then you can consider yourself lucky theres even been an instance in which a friend got a month.

but ive only ever gotten the week ones.

supposedly it is now illegal to drive with a space saver aswell as a friend got defected for that.

so go figure.

where are all the warnings of all these law changes i say?

That's always been illegal, but the loophole is the companies are allowed to supply them still.

You're only allowed to use it to rest the car on while you take your tyre to be repaired/replaced. They are -not- DOT rated and therefore not legal for road use.
