hey fellas

just wondering if these things are pretty much the same across the board, or if some are better than others. I have been looking at the HKS, fidanza and GTpumps ones in particular, and am leaning towards the fidanza ones at this stage.......

anyone had any experience with them?
cheers

my bro has tomei 260 cams.... they are pretty sick... got them done by darren afas so prolly best to talk to him....

got them done?

If we are just talkiong about the gears isnt it a matter of slidding the timing belt off and tieing in up. swapping the cam gears and sliding the belt back on?

Am i missing something?

i ended up using AEM cam gears, i nearly went the crowers but couldnt justify the price. the things i was told to look out for is make sure its a hard annodised surface, and to steer clear of the HKS ones that only have the three bolts holding them.

but to be honest, my cams arent even dialed in yet. i am running hks 264/264 copies.

not as easy as you'd expect
get the cam gear one wrong and timing would be off
plus to fit them you need to remove the rocker cover and hold the cam shaft in place etc etc..

there is also the tensioner issue where it could pull itself in (not sure with hydrolic tensioners but spring ones are a pain)

that cam gear bolt is very tight, make sure u have a breaker bar!!
the pop is LOUD when u undo it!

torque wrench also required to torque it back up to spec

as for cam gears...
i had the old 3 spoke hks ones (blue)
i sold them and got the new hks ones (different coating, stronger)

i'd go for a 5 bolt design over the hks 3bolt design
but many highpower 4g63's do use the hks (maybe coz they look good??)

but the fidanza's look good, one of the coolest looking ones i've seen are on the cordia forums... i think he makes them himself

basically its all about the $$$...

I bought the Crower ones.

Getting them from America direct was cheaper than I could get the HKS. And I could afford the valve springs & titanium retainers. Still cost less. Arrived by FedEx 5 days after I ordered them.

Beautiful engineering. Black (more stealthy) 8)
